relax everyone. it's only a word.

my mother has learned to use the word, but not in front of "the children" who are all grown.

my italian grandmother used every single word under the sun to express herself. not a one was spared. and she never ever missed mass, not to mention gave whatever she had to everyone she knew with a need.

my aunt is much like my grandmother. the children's ears are never spared.

I have plenty of southern relatives who behave in the most proper manner, publicly, until several drinks later, then all bets are off. in other words, we know what is proper, but sometimes we choose to be improper, somewhat privately.

I appreciate how language can be very colorful and expressive. as long as it isn't used to hurt or offend.

What interesting comments have been generated by this thread.

I don't mind the language around my children as much as I mind certain views, mindsets, practices, and philosophies that are more harmful than hearing a few curse words. For example, we do not like racial, religious, or cultural prejudice talk around our kids, period.

Regarding the language, both of them know that certain words are unacceptable for them to say in public, but adults have "earned" the right to use certain words. My kids haven't been on this earth long enough to earn the cussing privilege, nor have they lived through enough frustrating or stressful times. My kids do know that when they hear me curse, I mean business and they pay attention, or my frustration level has reached a point that I might need some assistance or at least a hug.

As far as the ABC news story goes, a naughty word slipped out on live TV. It was edited for all future network replays- the feeds for the other time zones. I am really not sure what the network was supposed to do beyond what they did. I would rather the kids hear the "F" on TV than watch CNN and other news outlets for 10 minutes. Talk about how to warp a kid- let them watch the news and see how screwed up our world really is!

Freedom, Yes! She is also Michael Keaton's sister. He is one funny man! Funny guy, grayt actor too!

Nope! His real name is Michael Douglas. Try using that in Hollywood! LOL!
He chose the last name Keaton after reading an article about Diane Keaton and thought that Michael Keaton had a nice ring to it...

Gotta love IMDB.com!

I just think Keaton's accidental use of you know what word was funny as hail. and I believe most people with any sense of humor whatsoever would have a good laugh and hope the kids didn't hear it.

So did I...just don't tell anyone...:D

I'm just kind of surprised that it was allowed to happen on something as wholesome as GMA.

I believe it slipped out, which kind of means that it was an accident.;-)

Here is an interview that was on Good Morning America.

Transcript of interview with Diane Sawyer:

Keaton: "Those lips, I love them. I would like to have lips like that. Then I wouldn't have worked on my f---ing personality. Excuse me, my personality. If I had lips like yours, I'd be better off. My life would be better. I would be married. I have these thin lips."

Sawyer: "My mother is going to work on your personality with soap in your mouth."
ABC and your local station has been warned about allowing the f-word on the public airwaves. The network could have easily muted the obscenity. But it chose not to. The network stations purposely chose to violate Federal and FCC law by airing the program.

My question is, should D. Keaton be allowed to get away with saying this on a network television station??? Don Imus was in all kinds of trouble for what he said, so what is the difference??? She said a word that offends many he said a word that offended many. I can understand that she did slip up but ABC should have censored it. THoughts?????
She used the Fbomb as an adjective not a verb. I think this word has taken on something other than what it was originally defined.:dunno:Maybe we should check wikipedia.Personally, I love Diane Keaton...but I think she could use a wardrobe stylist.:D

You and most of the world thinks that...

Dictionary.com has quite a collection of the adjectival uses of the eff word which aren't all related to the original meaning of the verb.
