I got your point, but you are missing mine. Policy based on "how does this affect me" is often counterproductive for civilized society as a whole, much less for the aforementioned me. Providing expanded welfare gives little incentive for those out of work to quickly get back to whatever work they can find (see Uncle Eddie's holding out for a position in management). Stricter gun control laws are shown to increase violent crime.

Your dragging in expanded welfare to a discussion on the 2nd amendment I don't see the relevance. However I do see a direct link to decreased social programs and a rise in violent gun crimes.
Is there an actual link between stricter gun control laws and increase in violent crime or is it just that the gun lobby tracks statistics more when trying to rationalize arming every man, woman, and child?
