As you do in so many cases you totally misinterpreted what I said. I called no one out for not volunteering or for not being drafted. And, along those lines, I really think our youth would be better served and more well rounded if in this country we did as the Swiss do and you know what that is. One last note. Regardless of what you say or how you feel about our military, everyone of us should thank those who see fit to serve in our volunteer services. If you do not appreciate and support our military the shame is yours, whoever you might be. As I said previously and will continue to say here and anywhere else I deem it necessary, I am proud to have served and have only praise for those who do so.
then quit acting like a bully and asking fellow board members if they ever donned a military uniform, or question their support of the military. being against avoidable conflict that sends our kids into the meat grinder is the highest support for our troops, and if you cannot recognize that reasoning, maybe you should visit a va hospital.

As far as I can tell, US law dictates a fine and/or imprisonment for up to 10 years for assaulting the president or VP (or the elect Pres or VP), and a fine and/or year for their staff.

US CODE: Title 18,1751. Presidential and Presidential staff assassination, kidnapping, and assault; penalties

Foreign Leader?

I saw this on Slate at Would someone in America go to jail for tossing a shoe at a foreign official? - By Juliet Lapidos - Slate Magazine :

Title 18, Section 112 of the U.S. Code offers special protection for "foreign officials, official guests, and internationally protected persons." Whoever "assaults, strikes, wounds, imprisons, or offers violence" against one of these people can be fined, imprisoned for up to three years, or both.

I would say that if a president of another country showed up on our turf and someone from the press core tossed a heavy object at their face, that individual should (and sounds like would) be punished by jail time. It's disrespectful and reflects poorly on the entire nation.

Agree. I even felt a little (very little) bad for Ahmadinejad when the Columbia University audience laughed at him for claiming Iran had no gays. I wouldn't have invited him to speak, but had I attended I would have refrained from disrespect.

full blown coward

I think he is quick.
A slower President may have gotten hit. ;-)

Andy, don't let Bob get to you. Just be thankful he changed that awful "tongue" avatar! He's an intellegent guy....he just has a different view of things. I'm probably a little left of you...and Bob's WAY left of me. (I'm guessing based on his views on limited issues....I could be wrong!)

I appreciate our military. I've got buddies going over and buddies already there. Their motives are honorable. It's the motives of those that send them that worry me.

The way things are going these days(Russians bringing weapons of war into our hemisphere, North Korea and Iran becoming more aggressive and the dollar tumbling) I would just assume have most of our troops on active duty here......just in case Hannibal comes knocking at the walls of the city.

Andy, you say things like this over and over again.

Why won't you acknowledge all the thanks, appreciation and support for our military (and you, in particular) expressed by both folks who agree and disagree with your politics in this thread and all over the board?

I thinks I am going to exercise my right and buy a gun.....or, maybe I'll just pick one up from the farm....that'll be easier.

Dollar no longer tumbling. It put in a low last July and has since climbed sharply against other currencies. I know it kills liberals and the AP, but the US still has the world's reserve currency and is the safe haven for frightened investors.

Below is a one year graph of the Euro plotted against the Dollar, iow a ratio. The reason why the Euro and the Pound gained on the Dollar over the past few years is not due to economic growth differences rather it is the Current Account of each nation. The biggest factor is causing a current account deficit in the US is the trade deficit. That is quickly diminishing as Americans tighten their purse strings. Europe and Asia are feeling the pain. The Dollar should continue to strengthen throughout 2009.

The Dollar's climb against the Pound has been even more startling.
