Thanks Starfish--I would love to be heading to the beach after tomorrow, but alas--books and supplies have set us back about$1500. Could have rented a nice condo for that!!

The anticipation for the actual moment is almost more than I can stand!!!! I bought her a beautiful necklace, put $50 in the jewelry box, and a coin purse filled with quarters--oh, and a heartfelt note which I wrote while crying. I'm giving her this as we bid farewell, and I'm going to tell her to open it after I leave. I will miss her laughter, her funny ways and all that, but I am genuinely excited for her. It's a beautiful campus, and she's in a newer dorm with a bath for 2. I just hope she doesn't do some of the stuff that I did when I went off to school......

Sweet idea. My daughter flipped this on me. She loved to jerk a tear out of me. She got a pretty card and necklace that she instructed her brother to give me right as she graduated 4 years later. I was trying to read this sweet note in the card thanking me for everything, while watching her get her diploma at the same time. My brother and sister in law were reading over my shoulder, we were all blubbering like fools.

My advice, carry tissue, don't cry in front of her. Be happy!

I read somewhere to "lick your wounds in private" I hope I can keep it together, because I don't want her last thoughts of me to be the blubbering Mom!!

What a sweet idea! I haven't experienced this milestone in life yet. My daughter will go off to college next year. It will be hard for me I know. Just know....its their next step in life.....so smile as you cry.

Words of advice, I could probably write a book. Ours just graduated. The main one is I told mine I know you will do things that I don't approve of, but please keep yourself safe and don't risk the safety of anyone else.

The rest basically works itself out. Enjoy every moment it will go so fast that you will look back and say why in the world did I even get emotional.

Starkville is a great college town and a safe town as far as crime goes. So that is one less worry.

PM me anytime if you need an ear to listen.

I didn't do well when either of ours went away to school and the oldest just went to MU, less than three hours from home! I proceeded to sob and cry all the time we moved her into the dorm and all the way home, in the back seat of our SUV, since neither husband or sixteen year old son wanted anything to do with me! Somehow all the advice and books on "Empty Nest" just didn't take and I honestly tried! I came home cleanned her room and got in our boat and DRANK! I did no better when our son left two years later, even had a good job and life. It is hard to let go of a child, when they are our lives. Thankfully, I have not made them psychotic, they both graduated from college and more and soon will have to say goodbye my grandchildren. No doubt, I will be a mess then too! My advice is to roll with the pain and pray for the kids.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound insensitive. College really is a chunk of change! I'm sure you will do well. It's difficult to let them go, especially if you enjoyed being a mom.

Please keep us posted on how things go.

Our "only" will leave next year. I'm going to be a mess I'm sure. He's anticipating getting accepted to schools over 800 miles away. It didn't sound like too big of a deal at first but now it sounds excruciatingly far.
