Mine were sony for about $70, but I don't know wht kind. They have little grey rubber things around the ear phones and just go in the ear, not outside the ear. They still fall out now and then, but they are easy to carry in my purse. You've made me curious about those better ones though!

Hum, I have been just using the IPOD earphones, and they sound fine to me. Maybe I don't know what I am missing. :dunno: Do they let you try them in the stores?

I have the car adapter which is good for traveling, but gives me problems in my area because I can't find a station that doesn't have some kind of transmission. I find the docking port with speakers is great, and I get a lot of use out of that. I also have that little transmitter that goes through the speakers.

Oh, and as for beach music, no one mentioned Bob Marley :dunno:

They sound similar to mine:

P.S. I have no idea why every photo I've linked tonight has come up as an URL, not a photo! :bang:
Mango--in the original beach music thread, lots of people mentioned Bob.

I couldn't see the photo, but they're probably similar since they're in the similar price range. I've read that it's good to get better earphones, especially for kids, because then they don't turn the volume up so high on the iPods which can damage their ears. We'll be getting better earphones for our kids soon. They don't listen to their iPods all the time at all and I think they're listening to my warnings about volume, so I'm not too worried yet. But there is concern that people who blast the volume are likely to have hearing loss later in their lives.

Earbuds...

The original iPod earbuds don't seal in your ear and block out the sound, so you have to really turn them up on an airplane. Even so, I couldn't really listen to anything with quiet passages - jazz, classical, anything spoken. I found I was getting off the plane with my ears ringing. Not good.

I bought Shure E3C earbuds for a dramatic improvement in both sound quality and isolation. You can probably reduce the volume 30-40% with them. They are a little pricey at $160-$180, but you only get issued one set of ears per lifetime. The Shure E2C sounds nearly as good at $80-$100. Both come with a wide selection of interchangeable earpieces so you can find something that works for your ears.

Since I helped drift this thread to iPods, I'll help pull it back to music:

Lifetime achievement awards for artists:
The Beach Boys
Jimmy Buffet

Individual Songs:
Wipeout by The Surfaris
Soak Up the Sun by Cheryl Crow
Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding
Hot Fun in the Summertime by Sly and the Family Stone
Under the Boardwalk by The Drifters

And back to the iPod...
The iTunes store has some great beach and summer mix lists. Check them out.

speaking of earphones, has anyone ever used the bose noise-reducing earphones ? these babies are awesome ! not practical for an ipod unless you are staying home, but excellent for portable dvd players...

Agreed on Jimmy Buffet, Jack Johnson, and Jamie Cullum. (I'm actually somewhat surprised and very pleased to find another Jamie fan!) His cover of the Neptunes' "Frontin'" is great.
Also anything by Ben Harper.
