Watch out for the roadblocks on the way down on the 9th. A friend of mine said he went down this weekend and went through the mother of all roadblocks in Defuniak. They had a trailer set up to "process" offenders. Those roadblocks are neccessary on holiday weekends, but he said they went a little overboard on this one.

He said they were just checking for licenses and drunks. He said it was a REAL bad day for the young folks taking beer to the beach. There was a huge pile of confiscated coolers full of beer. Wonder what they did with it? ;-)

I doubt they send it to the landfill :D . Well we won't be drinking and driving so I should be ok. Thanks for the tip.

I know what they do with the Mary Jane. They gather it into a big pile, and all of the deputies stand around in a big circle surrounding the pile, then they burn it. I have seen photos in newspapers of them doing this. I am not joking.

Seriously, you guys better watch out for the Police (Sheriff's Dept). They have five new patrol units for issuing traffic and speeding tickets. They were all on the west end of 30-A with blue lights flashing earlier today. Someone told me that the cops were exercising their writing hands.

RiverOtter, I must repectfully disagree with your advice to "floor it". I see folks driving like that and it is most disconcerting. Yesterday a guy was "flooring it", heading right into a group playing volleyball. As he approached, he was honking his horn and shouting "out of the way!" This is rude and dangerous. My advice to Cassie, and all others, is to get a good set of mud tires on your vehicle. I can drive at 5mph no matter how dry the sand is. If the vehicle has decent ground clearance, stay in the ruts.

In summary, get a good set of tires and drive slow. All it will take is one beachgoer to get hit and the driving priveleges will be forever gone. Perhaps one should buy a dedicated clunker of a 4-wheel drive, keep your chairs and toys in it, don't worry about all the sand in it, and have fun. For everyone's sake, please don't "floor it" like all the knuckleheads that are driving out there with regular street tires.

Cassie should buy a cheap truck and keep it at her beach house.

Well, since I regularly see many people driving as you described...

Seriously, it seems that a lot of people believe that one must drive fast in order to avoid getting stuck in the sand. I'm glad that you're not one of them.

It would be nice to have a Hummer. That way I could lower my tire pressure from the pilot chair :D
