BR,
Was the burglary for drug $$?
No, they were called "The Shopping List Burglars." They stole furnishings, artwork, lamps, even bathroom coordinates (soap dishes, towel sets, shower curtains), expensive cookware, etc. They also stole clothing. The two guys liked Tommy Hilfigger (sp?) that was worn by a local Domino's owner, and the woman liked the clothing worn by a bank president's wife, so both of those homes got robbed twice. They got caught because one of my friends' daughters had an early flight, saw lights on in the Domino's owner's home, knew they were out of town, got the license plate on the car, and called the police. The weirdest thing is that I just had bought a police scanner that day, my husband was out of town and I couldn't sleep, and I heard the entire arrest go down on the scanner. I knew the burglars (her father works where I do; we even went to their wedding!), so at first I thought the husband had beaten her. But then it became clear by the police conversation that it was a robbery.

These burglars were very brazen. They would go to, say, a Sunday School party, ask for a house tour, and then go back and steal the items that they'd admired on the tour. The woman was a college student, and when she'd overhear that one of her classmates was going to me out of town, she'd rob them. He's still in jail because he raped a few women on the burglary escapades.

I do wish I had one of those. I do have guns in my bedroom and always have but I'm not too sure how I'd do if I was woken up in the middle of the night. I usually don't even know who I am right when I wake up so I'm a little weary of my shooting skills. We also sleep with this guy who can put up a hell of a fight. Seen him do it too!
If you have guns, you definitely should go to a firing range every 3 months or so to maintain your skills. Otherwise, it's way too dangerous to use a gun.

That really is horrible and despicable. Just makes you wonder what happened to these kids during their childhood! That probably was quite a shock around town!

Seriously messed up childhoods! Or, what is it called when you're addicted to stealing? Oh yeah cleptomaniac. I bet they like the rush from stealing.

I do shoot on a regular basis. Remember I live in Alabama. :D
I just don't normally jump out of my bed from a dead sleep and start firing. That's what I'm worried about. I have a feeling though that if someone was in my house and I fired off a couple rounds through the ceiling, they wouldn't stick around to see how good my aim was. 12 gauge pump makes alotta noise at 2 in the morning... :D

Unfortunately, the police Captain that showed up said it was happening all over town this time of year.

I think it has more to do with crack. These people fear no consequences and are not afraid of anything. They don't care about you or how hard you work to BUY the things you own. They'd much rather take it from you than work for it.

Oh definately in your case. Sorry, I should've clarified. The ones that BR referred to stealing clothes and things they liked seemed like cleptos. I think she said she knew one of them.

I hope the police can do something about the crime. I loved growing up there.

LL, so sorry - I've always felt relatively safe since my hub is a police officer, but this has given me chills.

Hope the perps are caught - and STAY caught..,
