I actually went through phases of behavior when they'd come to the door. I went through a period of being rude, I did shocked and defensive, I did argumentative, I did the whole mess with them thing (act like what they said was exciting and as really outrageous questions acting serious and naive), etc etc

Now I just smile and say thanks but i'm not interested.

Since the thread is about religious programming locally (in case nobody has noticed, this area is uber Christian Bible belt ;-)), I really doubt we will ever see any diversity in religious TV programming since diversity is pretty much non-existent here. So everyone can probably relax.
Thank GOD that they are the drinking Christians. Liquor stores open at 9am on Sundays around here. In the "real" Bible Belt, you have to drink your liquor from a coffee cup.

Read this in a column about the Tebow ad and thought it was an appropriate summary of my feelings about people who think THEIR religious beliefs apply to everyone and need to be constantly broadcasted:

"You want to stuff your religion down my throat, have the decency to come and ring my doorbell like a good Mormon or Jehovah’s Witness.
Then I can at least share with you my own fervently held belief:You are a presumptuous and pompous gasbag." - Mike Celiziac

I just don't feel at all offended when people refer to their religion or what is important to them. Do I want people trying to "save" me? no thanks... Their beliefs or religious expression is theirs. In many cases, I do respect hearing about, knowing about, watching the things that make people tick - and religious or other faith is often one of those things. For some, faith is the driving force in their lives and its just part of their actions and words. For some, gratitude is expressed often and God happens to be part of the language of gratitude. offensive? why would it be? different personalities express these things in many various ways.

Yes, there are those who believe their religion and faith and God and way of life are the only truth - that can be quite annoying. I really don't tolerate any of that. and I don't have friends who do this. But there may be a family member or two who do this but hey, I can't choose my birth family.

I rarely come across anyone stuffing religion down my throat. In fact, I do not believe anyone can do so unless I give them permission.

it goes beyond tolerance. it is about appreciation of all kinds of people in my world.

I've lived in "real" Bible Belt. you are so right - SoWal does not qualify. far from it! I swear there is always a party and a celebration and this and that and so on and so on... never ending for as long as I've visited and/or lived here. and I'm just talking about full town residents. Visitors - oh my God, they can drink all day and all night long.

This thread has been interesting, truthful and enlightening with, unfortunately, perceived hurt feelings. Whatever the message that needs be expressed for many to see themselves, I think this forum is pretty good place.

I remember going to the Tom Thumb in Seagrove late one night and the girl at the register explained that she couldn't sell me beer since the Sheriff's deputy was sitting outside. If it hadn't been for that she would have happily obliged.
