Andy, in many ways DFS is a great place to live. I was privileged to be raised here, go to school here and work here. Privileged to raise my children here as well. Things are not perfect but there is so much that is right that is never discussed. But your statement does make my point.
That is a good idea LOCAL.
St. Joe Comp. donated the land where the current Sacred Heart Hosp. sits. If I'm not mistaken (someone will surely correct me if I am) there was a feasibility study done back in the day when Sacred Heart was being considered for Walton County...hence it's at the other end of the County.
I believe you are correct. At the time South Walton was without healthcare services and residents had to travel miles for basic services. Scared Heart is a big piece in the puzzle as far as growth in South Walton's resident population. In fact, it is a big resource for the entire county. I was there yesterday visiting a friend and it seemed as though half the population of North Walton was there for one reason or another.
From everything I've observed and the care my wife received, I consider it a GREAT hospital. The staff is unparalled in their duty performance and their passionate care and concern for their patients. I cannot say enough good things about Sacred Heart.

Andy, I think I read somewhere that it is one of the top 100 hospitals in the country. And they are launching a 30 million dollar expansion which should improve operations even more. Very impressive.
