Andy, I believe you are correct that we ain't seen nuthin' yet. I believe Americans are quite capable of putting this dumbbell in the white house.

and if that happens, we deserve just what we get!

BH - Palin was the Republican Vice-Presidential candidate in the last election.

How have you never seen her speak or formed an impression prior to now?

And McCain was republican presidential candidate in the last election

Told you guys from the beginning, don't actively follow everything in politics. I barely read the cliffnotes so to speak. Grew up with it all around me and it made me want to avoid it as much as possible. Some of you guys grew up in church and now run from it. Re-read post. I formed an impression, but since you guys were talking about it, I wanted to know what your take on it was. The only true interest I have in politics is that everyone that has been elected should do what they were elected to do to the best of their ability. Put aside kindergarten squabbling of what party are you in and get the job done. Fat chance, but possible.

What amazes me is that people are amazed and sometimes offended that everyone doesn't think like they do. I don't expect you to think like me, but at times do not feel I am extended the same courtesy. That was a general statement, not an accusation. Here is a statement people need to consider, travel, get out more, check out other cultures, everyone is not like you. When I was growing up in the south, southerners were offended if you spoke directly and didn't sugarcoat everything. Well, they sugar-coated things to your face, but then stabbed you in the back. I didn't embrace this type thinking or the racism that was rampant when I was growing up. I make the choices in my life of what I want to embrace and what I want to dispel. Thank God it's still a free country for me to do that in. :D:wave:

First of all, I am not presently a supporter of Palin for President. Secondly, it is my firm conviction that any American having the desire, perserverence and aggressiveness can run for President and possibly win. You don't have to be brilliant or even exceptionally intelligent. A nice degree of normality will do. Witness Bush and Obama. Neither are Einsteins, IMO.
To a great degree, "dumbbell" is in the eye of the beholder and it isn't always correct.
I am not going to go into a long dissertation on what Sarah Palin says or how she says it. Many of the points she brought forth in her Tea Party address were smack on. Admittedly, some of her sarcasm wasn't. I won't comment on her voice or oral presentation skill as I can commiserate with such a problem. I have always had a high pitched voice and it grates on some people's nerves but I have learned to live with it and am not afraid to speak to groups and express my opinion, whether others consider it right or wrong. I see a lot of this in Sarah Palin. She speaks what she believes and you can be damned if you don't like it.
College degrees are, to a great degree, highly overrated. They are not, in themselves, an indication of intelligence. They are a refinement, honing and polishing of innate intelligence and someone can understand and solve problems quite well without a college degree.
Suffice it to say I like Sarah Palin's style. Most of the crap I read knocking her is just that...crap. You don't have to admire or agree with her but you would be wise to listen to what she has to say. It is what she believes and most of it is right for the working and retired citizen of the United States.

Never listened or paid attention to the woman before, now I know why. I just listened to her speech at the tea party convention and could barely sit through 30 seconds of her speech- sorry I asked. She never caught my attention in the first place so I always ignored her. Now I have a headache. I wanted to give her voice lessons and fix her hair and turn off the video. Even if she had rational issues to agree with, I couldn't stand listening to them. Maybe I am prejudiced and partial to men. She will not be getting my vote for anything. So slap me for asking, call me a dumb bunny, and be on your way :rotfl:

Bob, thank you for razzing me again, I thought you had abandoned me, sport chiefy
:D

Andy, I guess I don't really understand the sentiment that it is desirable to have an ordinary person as president rather than someone who is, in fact, brilliant or exceptionally intelligent.

There are many exceptionally intelligent people among our 300 million citizens who don't say stupid things or say things stupidly. Sarah Palin is not one of them. Neither is George Bush. Although I believe he isn't performing well, I do believe Obama is one of them (but I digress).

Let's stop this nonsense with ignoring that Sarah Palin isn't presidential material. It's okay. I'm not presidential material either and neither are most on this board...

Yes, many of the things we joke about and the media focuses on are crap - but mixed in along with that crap are MANY valid reasons why she is not a good leader for our country.

I don't think a college degree or one's accent are anywhere near as important as their basic common sense and ability to learn and get things done. I don't think she has the flexibility or skills necessary to do that.

What you say is a lot more important than whether it came off your hand, a notecard, a teleprompter, etc. and I DO NOT like what she is actually saying. Some of the things she is saying do at first seem like they should resonate with many Americans - unfortunately they turn out to just be phrases, punchlines, or half-truths/outright lies to agitate a mob, not actual policies or solutions.

"She speaks what she believes and you can be damned if you don't like it."

Which really sums her up IMO - no room for debate, dialogue, gray areas, or compromise. And nothing in her message for someone who doesn't agree with her or her limited view of "the real America."
