Why Borago?

Food
Appetizers: Love the scallops with polenta appetizer - scallops are perfectly cooked, ant the tomato butter sauce is perfect with it. Ditto for the veal meatballs with polenta - love the nice garlic taste of the meatballs. The seared tuna is well-accompanied by the mustard sauce.

Salads: The Caesar is good, a bit mayonnaisey tasting to me, but hubby orders it every time, and he hates mayo. I love the arugula salad, excellent except when the walnuts are too sweet. Daughter loves the Caprese when tomatoes are in season.

Primi: When we want to "cheap out," the angel hair pasta with red chilies has a a lot of deep flavor to it. The angel hair with shrimp and scallops was the best ever the last time we had it - there was more of the tomato mascarpone sauce than usual. Hubby loves the penne with hot Italian sausage in the cooler months - the roasted tomato sauce gives it a rich taste.

Secondi: Last week I flipped over the grouper Nicoise, nicely complemented by tomatoes and olives. The salmon with polenta is just plain yummy. And the shrimp and scallops with risotto and spinach is to die for.

Prices
The high-end entrees aren't as expensive as those of Borago's competitors. What we like is that we can have a salad and a pasta or a salad and an appetizer and get out of there pretty reasonably.

Service
The two of us love the ambiance at the bar. There is a history of superb service there, from Jay to Danny and now Jenna. I really don't know of anywhere we've ever had better service, other than perhaps La Grotta in Atlanta. Jenna, as did her predecessors, makes a point of knowing who you are, what you like, is extremely attentive to your needs without hovering, makes great wine suggestions - basically, all three of these bartenders have been as smooth as butter.

Other Factors
I ain't gonna lie - we love watching college football and basketball, so it's nice to be able to dine and watch the games. We're probably there at least once every three weeks in the off season.

Great, BR! You just blew it for us! Now, we are never going to be able to get a seat there. :bang::cry:;-)

Let me apologize for RiverOtter who didn't read the choices given. :funn:

You can pick any where. I didn't mean to narrow it to those I listed.

I hate to sound like a backwoods heathen but......we never dress up when on vacation in FL. SO- would any of these nice restaurants lend themselves to shorts (not cut-offs) or even jeans? I have others on my list to visit but thought I would ask about these as well.

Thanks in advance for not taking me to task for lack of refinement and decorum. :D

make it a progressive dinner !!!

Criolla's for drinks and tapas
D&K for dinner
Gravel Road for dessert

all three of the above restaurants are very near each other.

This is the best idea I've heard.

Goofer, can I tag along with you on your gastronomic adventures? They always sound like fun, and your wine selections...heavenly.

There's quite a mix/range as far as what people wear, depending on the restaurant, their personality, etc.

Many men wear tailored dress shorts w/ polos or button down shirts. Jeans (if worn by anyone over college age) are dressy jeans w/ nice tops and shoes. Women in shorts at dinner is rare at the nicer restaurants.

I would go to dinner at any of them in a nice pair of jeans, heels, and a cute top, but I am also in my late twenties and would be more casually dressed than most people there.

Unless I happened to be dining there also. :D You are at the beach, Re-freaking-lax. :D:D, but if you want to blend into the crowd (I never like to do that), ... take note of what scooterbug said.
