Why Borago?
Food
Appetizers: Love the scallops with polenta appetizer - scallops are perfectly cooked, ant the tomato butter sauce is perfect with it. Ditto for the veal meatballs with polenta - love the nice garlic taste of the meatballs. The seared tuna is well-accompanied by the mustard sauce.
Salads: The Caesar is good, a bit mayonnaisey tasting to me, but hubby orders it every time, and he hates mayo. I love the arugula salad, excellent except when the walnuts are too sweet. Daughter loves the Caprese when tomatoes are in season.
Primi: When we want to "cheap out," the angel hair pasta with red chilies has a a lot of deep flavor to it. The angel hair with shrimp and scallops was the best ever the last time we had it - there was more of the tomato mascarpone sauce than usual. Hubby loves the penne with hot Italian sausage in the cooler months - the roasted tomato sauce gives it a rich taste.
Secondi: Last week I flipped over the grouper Nicoise, nicely complemented by tomatoes and olives. The salmon with polenta is just plain yummy. And the shrimp and scallops with risotto and spinach is to die for.
Prices
The high-end entrees aren't as expensive as those of Borago's competitors. What we like is that we can have a salad and a pasta or a salad and an appetizer and get out of there pretty reasonably.
Service
The two of us love the ambiance at the bar. There is a history of superb service there, from Jay to Danny and now Jenna. I really don't know of anywhere we've ever had better service, other than perhaps La Grotta in Atlanta. Jenna, as did her predecessors, makes a point of knowing who you are, what you like, is extremely attentive to your needs without hovering, makes great wine suggestions - basically, all three of these bartenders have been as smooth as butter.
Other Factors
I ain't gonna lie - we love watching college football and basketball, so it's nice to be able to dine and watch the games. We're probably there at least once every three weeks in the off season.
