Next question: Do you have any good Architectural Salvage places in your town? Anybody :dunno:

HI BC. We have a Habitat for Humanity salvage place here. I went and looked around the other day. Most of what they have is stuff people have donated from their home remodling projects. What are you looking for?

Since this thread was started, I have had vinyl siding put on my house, new windows, new back porch, hardwood installed throughout....love it, even with two fur babies it is great. Just had a girl start last week doing all the painting inside (I hate to paint). It is coming along. Can't wait to start decorating. I hope you are doing well.

My best gf, has real hard wood floors in her common areas, kitchen, keeping room etc. They were beautiful but everthing scuffs them and they had a water leak from the ice machine and spent a fortune replacing the flooring and trying to stain the new to match the old. Did not really work due to aging of real wood.

So they learned a lesson from it and when they put down hardwood in their game room and media room they got Pergo and love it.

Hi KDW! I know you are excited, that's like starting all over!! I've been looking at siding and found a color called Vintage Sage that was really pretty. The babies aren't scratching the floors? I've got two now you know. Somebody dumped the most adorable puppy. I'll try to attach a picture. She's at the hospital today, we had her spayed. Her sister misses her too.

I imagine we'll be doing alot of the work ourselves but it will be worth it. I'll be looking for doors, transoms, windows, cabinet knobs, etc. I found some interesting stores around Dallas. We may start looking there. Hey DD, Hey Kittay:wave:

We'll be building a new "old house". It's getting exciting, we've been clearing out from under the trees we'll keep. They're like 300 year old oak trees. I can hardly wait to start building!!:D

Thanks for the info Minnie, I'll add the water damage to the hardwood cons list....;-)

This really isn't that good of a picture of the floor. Sorry.

John R! I love these floors on this site. If I had known about this manufacturer, I would have gotten them in a heartbeat. The look I had originally wanted was linoleum. The people at the flooring stores thought I had lost my mind. So I settled on Pergo B&W. I do love it but I didn't have a lot of options.

I don't want to vacuum another day in my life.

you know you can't get away from vacuuming. if i was building a new place, i would install an in-wall vacuum. the dust is not recirculated into the environment being vacuumed, it's quiet since the head unit is typically in the garage or closet, and you only need to move the hose.

laminate flooring caught my eye. Been wondering why I don't see more stained concrete in sowal? If I were building, it would be my pick.
We have stained concrete on the first floor at the beach house. Love it!

The kitchen is a b&W stone look
Love your B&W.

Bamboo is the way to go. Hard as concrete but ecofriendly as it is a renewable resource. No off gassing, biodegradable, little or no petroleum depending on the finish.

And beautiful!
The hair salon in Atlanta where I go has bamboo. It looks gorgeous and appears to have held up very well.

Yes, we are trying to downsize too, and our house is on the market. We plan to build a smaller place so that we don't have to rent it. And if I want to spend mid-May through Labor Day at the beach, I can.

I love wood for all its imperfections, varieties, and colors, so I vote for real wood floors, but they do make some really nice laminate floors too.

Stained concrete is a nice finish (not just for garages anymore), but can be quite chilly in winter, and it cracks, or needs to have control joints cut in it that are either liquid or dust traps and the stain does not always turn out the way you expect.
