...mo' betta, if one wants to drop a very little or a very lot of coin for a gift, use it to buy "experiences" and not "things"...a picnic or a weekend retreat; a sailboat ride or a Caribbean cruise; a home-cooked meal or cooking lessons in New York City. Select the type of experience based on what you can easily afford at the moment--one should not go into months (or years!) of debt buying a gift (or experience) for a boy/girlfriend...that's the epitome of stupidity!

If he's got lots of disposable income to burn, there's no harm in allowing him to shower you with gifts...if he's running up debt on his credit cards to "spoil" you, that's just plain lunacy on his part. You are under no obligation to "give back accordingly."
