You can't will away a reliance of oil.

You can lead away from it though...just as President Kennedy challenged us to go to the moon in 10 years...a president with vision and leadership will be able to challenge this country to a different energy plan...

Palin's decision about her 5th child is a personal issue. Should it be part of politics? probably not, but when you are in politics your personal life is not personal, it is public.

For instance, think about Obamas personal life, (no relationship with his father, being raised by his grandparents) people don't talk about how "disgusting" that is. Obama said last night that the absence of his relationship, or lack of one, with his father makes him stronger. Well, IMO, the challenges on dealing with this 5th child will make her stronger.

Her decision to have a child at 44 and assuming the risks involved was her personal decision and I can't for the life of me understand why it would be discussed as part of a political campaign, by either side.
More impressive is that she reportedly was back at work 3 days after giving birth -- That is hardcore!

read the Pickens Plan...we can not drill our way out of this problem.

It will take at least 10 years to reduce the price at the pump if we started more drilling tomorrow according to the sources I've read, I will post the web address later that I have been using.

McCain knows that drilling off-shore tomorrow would take 10 years to see a small reduction of the cost of gasoline at the pump; however, he also knows it is a good "sound bite" that many people will believe because they want to see some "instant relief"
I'm curious to know how Obama will make us energy independent in ten years.

I wouldn't believe what Pickens says - it was recently reported that he went batty.

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/08/080825-bat-bends.html

Interestingly enough, last night Obama outlined his energy plan which he said would take ............... drum roll please ................... 10 years to implement. Is that why you are parroting claims about how long it will take to get Gulf of Mexico oil to market? The infrastructure to get at the oil is already in place so it can be delivered much quicker thus easing the pain at the pump.

I think Pickens with all his millions will find a way to deal with the bats:roll:

I am getting my info from The Rocky Mountain Institute primarily, but there is a lot of research; and what I said is that if we started drilling offshore now, it would take as long as 10 years to affect the price of a gallon of gasoline at the pump. The research is out there--the oil people know that and so does McCain.

In addition, there are national security issues raised by the Air Force about off shore drilling here in Florida and the pipeline in Alaska is one of the most vulnerable points for terrorists...and there are the environmental issues.

What Obama said was that he would have an Energy Plan for the country that would take away our dependence on Middle East Oil...in ten years.

Two separate points.

This is what he said last night.

"And for the sake of our economy, our security, and the future of our planet, I will set a clear goal as President: in ten years, we will finally end our dependence on oil from the Middle East."

If we, in 10 years, are not dependent on oil from the Middle East and he does not want to drill on our soil then what praytell does he plan on doing?? Maybe this should go to the Obama speech thread??:dunno:

I am truly heartsick about this pick. Senator McCain has just blown the presidency. I live in Sedona and have met McCain. I am a great admirer of him. He has just lost my support and I think eventually millions of people like myself.....social liberals but fiscal and national defense conservatives. I don't know a blessed thing about Gov Palin and that is the point. The main raisonne detre ( fancy word) for picking a VP is if that person can assume the presidency if something terrible happens. We are talking about a 72 yo man who has suffered three melanomas. Gov Palin's resume and experience makes Barack Obama look like he is the second coming of Winston Churchill !!! This was an outrageous boneheaded pick. Pandering to women as if women will be prepared to vote for a pro life, gun bearing, killer of moose !!! :yikes: I will vote for Obama.

Goofer, the lady has the highest approval factor of any Gov. She can balance a budget, which neither McCain nor Obama can do, she is isn't afraid of cutting wasteful spending, all things which are important to everyone reading this message board thread, but most importantly for McCain, the voters in and below the curve in America, vote based on popularity. McCain doesn't have it, Obama does, Biden doesn't, but Palin will rock the house, more than all three of the others. I think she will bring the votes from the masses. I've said it many times and believe it to be true -- unfortunately, the political races in America are a popularity contest, these days. I can tell you from glancing at the political highlights of Palin, I'm kind liking her better than McCain. I had never heard her name before now, and really know nothing about her, but will soon find out. I hear that there is biography written on her.

I can see it now, 2012 -- Palin vs Obama for President.
