SJ...I caught that captured audience thing as well...on both sides. Makes for great TV, no?

I listened to it on the radio, not to be thrown off by any orange pant suits, nor the news commentators, so I didn't get to see the Directors camera shots, and rally faces. However, I felt the captured audience in both Conventions, which I'm sure is as staged as the stage itself.

The VP is important!

Bear in mind that more than 30% of our US presidents were once VPs. 5 were elected, 4 took over the office after the President died, 5 took over after the president was assassinated, and 1 took over after the president resigned.

In the interests of fairness I watched part of her speech. I take back what I said earlier - she and Hilary do have something on common besides their gender - I can't listen to either of them speak - freakin' nails on a chalkboard!

Just so you know, Mrs. Palin looked gorgeous, IMO. She looked at the color wheel. :D

I believe that all four people vying for the top 2 posts are not the best choices we could come up with considering our country's seemingly intractable problems. Our country's biggest issues are internal, not "over there".

The fact that she kept mocking Obama in her speech for being a community organizer said a lot about the kind of person she is. It also said a lot about the out-of-touch delegates who kept cheering when she said it. Explain to me what is so laughable about working to help poor, working families?

Absolutely nothing. What is hilarious is the Democrats trying to convince the public that Obama's community organizing activities and "running" of a campaign for President qualifies him to be President. For what its worth, I don't think Palin is any more ready to be President with a Journalism Degree from University of Idaho. The fact is that Presidential elections are now full blown media events 24/7 where style wins out over substance. Now we have two "articulate" and "clean" oppressed folks who are photogenic and have a nice delivery at the podium (I thought Palin was sexy in a hot for teacher sort of way). Fox, CNN and MSNBC are sure to sell a lot of advertisements while the specal contributors shovel BS about the historic nature of these great candidates and tear them down and build them up with misinformation. We may end up missing W and Hillary.

:rotfl: I rather enjoyed the voice (tone and accent) of Palin, but not what she was saying. With Hillary, I didn't like her screechy voice, nor her ideology.

Thanks. She's a hottie -- I saw a pic of her from last night on the www this morning. I bet she didn't even use an audience poll to select that outfit.

Agree. I was especially bothered by her comment about denying rights to POWs. And even more bothered by the fact that the people in the audience cheered that comment.

That seems really odd to me, coming from John McCain's sidekick. It makes me know that the speeches were all written by the campaign operatives of the far right; they are willing to use McCain's POW status when it suits their purpose, but they are not listening to what he has said about torture. It is scary.

McCain lost serious credibility with me when he folded for Bush with the torture bill. It really is scary that someone who experienced it and then fought for decades to prevent it would flip over night.

I understand her attempt to defend herself, by "softly" comparing her job as Mayor to Obama's job as community organizer. No problems there, since the other side through the first punch, but defend yourself and move on to the real issues. To keep fighting, while ducking the real issues, makes me feel like the "leaders" really don't give a hoot about anything but winning.

I saw Biden on TV today, and he was a little too boxed in to throw punches back. I could only guess that he wanted to throw punches back, but doesn't want to be seen as beating up on a lady with five kids, so he refrained, and even mentioned her real experience. Biden's polite response to last night, was more impressive (political savvy) than Palin's speech last night, IMO.

Cheering camps are no place for me to make my final decision on the lady. I look forward to the debates.

Debate, IIRC there is only one VP candidate debate.

I thought it was very smart how she played to the crowd about being a small town girl. I actually think she is going to have big appeal among the small town people across the country. She had been ripped apart ever since being announced as the VP choice and I was glad to see her come out and go on the offensive. Democrats want to talk about her experience so she talked about Obama's.
I loved it when she said, "Being a mayor of a small town is kind of like being a community organizer, but you have responsibilities!"
I also thought it was very smart to bring up Obama's comments in San Francisco when talking about the workers in Penn and Ohio...... that many Americans in the small towns across the Midwest "cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment" because they are "bitter" over economic anxiety.
I didn't think it was smart for them to use Rudy in the same role of bashing Obama also. I think they would have been much better off just leaving it up to her, but not many people seem to be talking about it.
It will be interesting to see the polls when they come out. Did they shrink the Obama lead or is it now a bigger gap? When was the last time you were actually excited about seeing a debate like this? I for one, am.

Barefoot and Pregnant

It's great to see that after listening to shrill democrat women complain about glass ceilings, they are now ready to proclaim that women should be barefoot and pregnant because the Republicans have proven to be the party of equality. (see Condoleeza Rice) The nerve of Sarah Palin to have a demanding job while being a mother. That's O.K. for men, but women should know better.

These same women were ready to impale Clarence Thomas before any facts came out, but sat by as the Clinton machine steamrolled his victims, a couple of them not even consensual.

Hypocrisy exists everywhere in politics, but perhaps the most pathetic transparent example is with those who claim to be feminists.

Maybe one day, they will throw off the yoke of being democrats, and join the modern world. By the way, Laura Bush, Sarah Palin, and Cindy McCain actually look and dress as women, showing some sign of feminism, while being strong and accomplished. I hope that this catches on.
