As far as the potential VP of the U.S., I am impressed with her only to a degree--I am not won over though. If another 9/11 happens and if she is in second in command, not sure I want her to make the decsion to shoot down our own commercial aircraft or not, as Cheney almost had to do. If McCain gets laid up, really not sure if she should be Commander in Chief, even temporarily, authorizing future military strikes. Only Hillary has enough teststerone to do that. Did that sound sexist?

Let's face it Dick Cheney has given the VP job much more meaning that ever before--and that is not really a bad thing IMO. Gone are the days of the likes of Dan Qualye, Fritz Mondale as figurehead VP's. I see Biden as the stronger of the two for now.

Granted we are not voting for a VP--but it was both McCain and Obama's first most important decision!

I missed most of last night's pep rally, but I did listen to most of Rudy's speech and all of Palin's. She delivers a good speech and connects with people who are already fans, but she left us independents out. I go back to my earlier thoughts -- it is all Partisan poliTRICKS. I know these conventions are nothing more than pep-rallys, but damn. Sure, Biden went off on "his good friend, McCain," delivering big punches, so McCain unleashed his "pit-bull with lipstick" (aka- hockey mom, Sarah Palin) on Biden and Obama. Last night was the first time in a week that I heard Obama's name, and I heard it way too often. I wish they would shut up with all of the party political punches and talk about real stuff, but hey, I also wish I could win the PowerBall Lottery.

Her speaking ability is great, conviction is strong, but I was more impressed with her before her speech against Obama and Biden. I'd want her on my side if I were fighting for something, but that mentality for leaders of our gov't, take care of only a minority of the people.

Julianni -- I'm not impressed either. I thought he demonstrated leadership during the days after 911, but that is where it stopped for me.

Please, someone take me out of view of this sandbox fight.

You do realize she is a VP candidate? Would you vote for a prez based on who the VP candidate is? Or are you looking for a way to justify a decision you're already leaning toward?

If McCain gets into office as Pres., Sarah Palin will probably be the first elected Vice President of the USA.

Did anyone else catch this moment -- It was hysterical to me. . .

The Gov of Hawaii was speaking. She said "some people think that Alaska is a small state. But they have the same electoral votes as" . . . ..wait for it. . . . . ." Delaware." The crowd went wild. Woo-hoo. Yeah. Take that Democrats. Alaska isn't small at all. It has the same electoral votes as the super large state of Delaware. Woo-hoo!!! HUH???? As soon as the crowd calmed down she went on to deliver the punchline -- "and you can fit 200+ states the size of delaware within it's borders." The crowd cheered again.
You do realize that Biden is a Senator from Delaware, don't you?

People, pay attention. If you are going to be at the convention, you have to wait until the punchline is delivered. Don't they have "applause" signs??

I thought that was just a shining example of the juvenile, "take that" feel of the night.

Yes, Palin's a good speaker, but the things coming out of her mouth were exaggerated, if not untrue...and IMHO she's kind of scary (can't put it into words right now).

I guess her "hot" factor will help, though, according to all the buttons in the audience. Sexism, maybe? Would they say that if she were a man?

Yeah, but what does fitting 200 Delaware's into the state of Alaska have to do with doing with anything?

I think that she is saying that while Alaska may be sparsely populated, as Gov, she governs a state 200 times the size of Biden, so in reality, she is more powerful and important.

I know what you mean about the being "kind of scary." I felt it too. I'm a little scared that she is too much focused on us against them. Last night, it was Rep/Dem, but I cannot help to think that next it will be USA/Russia, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, China, etc. If she plays hard ball with other countries, I don't think she will be lenient. I think she may take the USA under her wing like her own child, and fight til the end. Lord help us all.

Agree. I was especially bothered by her comment about denying rights to POWs. And even more bothered by the fact that the people in the audience cheered that comment.

That seems really odd to me, coming from John McCain's sidekick. It makes me know that the speeches were all written by the campaign operatives of the far right; they are willing to use McCain's POW status when it suits their purpose, but they are not listening to what he has said about torture. It is scary.

I can answer why the audience at the Conventions (both dem and rep) applaud like they are at a Friday afternoon high-school pep-rally -- they are all jacked up on the kool-aid.

It isn't that only the speeches are written by puppet masters, which bothers me. It is that the entire campaigns and Presidency is handled by puppet masters, and the Presidents are the puppets.

The fact that she kept mocking Obama in her speech for being a community organizer said a lot about the kind of person she is. It also said a lot about the out-of-touch delegates who kept cheering when she said it. Explain to me what is so laughable about working to help poor, working families?

Agree. To me, she bashed every volunteer in America. What happened to the 1,000 points of light?

SJ...I caught that captured audience thing as well...on both sides. Makes for great TV, no?

I understand her attempt to defend herself, by "softly" comparing her job as Mayor to Obama's job as community organizer. No problems there, since the other side through the first punch, but defend yourself and move on to the real issues. To keep fighting, while ducking the real issues, makes me feel like the "leaders" really don't give a hoot about anything but winning.

I saw Biden on TV today, and he was a little too boxed in to throw punches back. I could only guess that he wanted to throw punches back, but doesn't want to be seen as beating up on a lady with five kids, so he refrained, and even mentioned her real experience. Biden's polite response to last night, was more impressive (political savvy) than Palin's speech last night, IMO.

Cheering camps are no place for me to make my final decision on the lady. I look forward to the debates.
