It would be my guess that you should dry your hair first. I have never used a flat iron though so I'm not sure.

A few years ago I was thinking about getting a perm and one of my girlfriends with naturally curly hair actually threatened to kill me if I went through with it. She gets her hair straightened at a salon a few times a year - some Japanese process that is very expensive. It never ceases to amaze me how we women always seem to want what we don't have!
Jr, that is so weird! I've never heard of that happening to anyone before. I do know that the inexpensive flat irons found in places like Target, etc., are relatively useless, I learned that lesson the hard way. My current one is an "in-between" one bought at Sally Beauty Supply for about $40, but I am currently shopping eBay and overstock.com for my Chi. I think I'm going to bite the bullet!Johnrudy said:I've had trouble using a flat irons. Have bought 2 & returned them. Maybe I should try a Chi but they seem so $$$$. Everytime I use one, my hair gets incredibly puffy with static! I totally have to re-wash it. Anyway, I don't have wavy or curly hair and not straight, just nasty semi-wavy. So I have to use salon priced shampoos, conditioners and very strong styling products and a round brush. That's what smooths my nastiness & frizzies out. I can never let it air dry.
So, I would love to try a flat iron occasionally, if it made it look better, not worse!!
Mine were from Ulta (like a Sally) for about $40 too. I don't lose a lot of sleep over it. My hair is incredibly dry anyway.peapod1980 said:Jr, that is so weird! Ditto. Like they do in the salon, I round-brush my hair while drying it, using large clips to divide it into sections. But then I flat-iron it. It looks best if I use some sort of product like Priv? wax or Aveda volumizing tonic afterwards.Johnrudy said:... and a round brush. That's what smooths my nastiness & frizzies out. (I am using an Aveda Sap Moss with Saran wrap on my head right this very minute).
It sounds pretty decadent!Well, my 15 yo son, has me iron his hair on special occasions or for a cello performance. It's pretty cool to see him with thick, straight hair sometimes. And, he's not embarrassed either. His girlfriend and friends all know he has me do it sometimes! (But if it weren't for me, he wouldn't take the time AT ALL!)jdarg said:Have y'all noticed that none of the "boys" have chimed in here?![]()
