Pea, this is the flat iron that we got for Fyl at Christmas:

OK, cool. So, Fyl has the original model, as does my friend who just bought hers. I've noticed most stylists use the original one, too. So, this is helping me reach a decision. Before I go the overstock route (which is by far the cheapest of all the retailers), I have to be a good girl and see if I can find one on eBay. I have lots of money in my Paypal account...
Now to lump some other comments and questions from other posts into this one: What is the Revo Styler? I'm intrigued! Of course, I'm sure I'll go straight from here to Blingo, regardless.
Aveda Sap Moss is such great stuff! I have a friend who's a stylist, and she swears by it. I have the shampoo and conditioner. Great for whomever was complaining of their dry hair--Johnrudy, was that you? I also highly recommend Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny line; all the products are great and give great results. It's a line for "unruly" hair. Also, The Body Shop does a great hair mask, it's gotten quite a bit of press, the beauty mags love it--Brazil Nut Moisture Mask. I have coarse, curly hair, so I'm a fanatic about taking care of it. (And I'm a beauty product junkie, have you noticed?)
This has been fun! I love having this little girl-talk thread going! :clap_1:

Headband = Freedom
Naw, receding hairlines run in my family, even the females. Headbands look awful on us. Thanx for the suggestion.

It's buck up and spend time with the flat-iron and a lot of product, or go wavy with Aveda volumizer.

Peapod, I haven't tried the Sap Moss. I will.

The funny thing about salons is the products they promote. My guy left Van Michael (a big Aveda house where I'd gone since, like, 1990) and opened his own salon, so he went with Bumble & Bumble. Then Bumble & Bumble was sold at Ulta, so he went with Privé and something else whose name escapes me. Then Ulta started selling that, so he went with several others, the most recent being Kerastase. I just saw that at CVS. What's next?

Jr, that is so weird! I've never heard of that happening to anyone before. I do know that the inexpensive flat irons found in places like Target, etc., are relatively useless, I learned that lesson the hard way. My current one is an "in-between" one bought at Sally Beauty Supply for about $40, but I am currently shopping eBay and overstock.com for my Chi. I think I'm going to bite the bullet!

A month or so I bought a Vidal Sassoon flat iron at Target for $40. What a waste of money! It doesn't compare to the one my stylist uses at all. I've been wearing my hair curly lately. I have pretty wavey hair and I bought a new gel by Big Sexy Hair and I was amazed at how curly it got. Everyone keeps asking me if I got a perm. It's just wash, scrunch it a little while drying and go!

Headband = Freedom

Somedays headbands save me, but I've noticed that the ones with teeth are responsible for a lot of breakage. For most of the last several years, I have had long, straight hair, all the same length, and all I ever could do with it was put it in a ponytail or wear the headband. A few months ago, I broke down and got it cut - I hadn't gone to any particular stylist in years, but chose one recommended by my neighbor. I was so nervous, but she kept it long, added some very subtle highlights and cut what she called a "side bang." I can blow my hair dry, and use a big barrel curling iron on just the hair that frames my face - it takes me about 15 minutes and I LOVE IT! Once in a great while, I still break down and use the headband - mostly when I'm working out, just to keep the hair out of my face. And the ponytail holders don't cut it anymore - that darn "side bang" just hangs over my left eye if I don't curl it!
