Both of those that I had were ionics. Maybe that's my problem tho!! I'm blow-drying my hair 1st. Isn't that correct??

It would be my guess that you should dry your hair first. I have never used a flat iron though so I'm not sure. :dunno:

Mine isn't exactly wash and wear, but it is arrow straight. A few years ago I was thinking about getting a perm and one of my girlfriends with naturally curly hair actually threatened to kill me if I went through with it. She gets her hair straightened at a salon a few times a year - some Japanese process that is very expensive. It never ceases to amaze me how we women always seem to want what we don't have!

i currently have a perm, just to add a little body, my hair is fine but very thick so tends to look like straw. my problem is my hair is so hard to curl that perms very seldom last for more that 4-6 weeks. and you are so right, we always want the hair we don't have. the lady who does my massages had straight hair, then had chemo for breast cancer and lost all her hair. it came back in curly, which she always wanted, and she hates it and longs for her straight hair back.

I've had trouble using a flat irons. Have bought 2 & returned them. Maybe I should try a Chi but they seem so $$$$. Everytime I use one, my hair gets incredibly puffy with static! I totally have to re-wash it. Anyway, I don't have wavy or curly hair and not straight, just nasty semi-wavy. So I have to use salon priced shampoos, conditioners and very strong styling products and a round brush. That's what smooths my nastiness & frizzies out. I can never let it air dry.
So, I would love to try a flat iron occasionally, if it made it look better, not worse!!
Jr, that is so weird! I've never heard of that happening to anyone before. I do know that the inexpensive flat irons found in places like Target, etc., are relatively useless, I learned that lesson the hard way. My current one is an "in-between" one bought at Sally Beauty Supply for about $40, but I am currently shopping eBay and overstock.com for my Chi. I think I'm going to bite the bullet!

Mine were from Ulta (like a Sally) for about $40 too. I don't lose a lot of sleep over it. My hair is incredibly dry anyway.
Good luck to you, tho!

Ditto. Like they do in the salon, I round-brush my hair while drying it, using large clips to divide it into sections. But then I flat-iron it. It looks best if I use some sort of product like Priv? wax or Aveda volumizing tonic afterwards.

Funny story. You know how at the beach you put off doing your hair in case you want to go into the water one more time? Once at the beach we were spending a lot of time in the water, even as late as midnight in the hot tub. I had gone for three days without doing my hair (I know, EWWWWW!). I decided to let it dry naturally and use the volumizing tonic to make the waves stay in and stop the frizz. I went to Publix, and a woman complimented me on my hair and asked where I had it done. I died laughing when I got into the car - if she only knew!

That pretty much describes my hair! Have you tried the Revo Styler? I used to use a regular large round brush, but my hair is shoulder length and my hands were alway worn out way before my hair was dry! The Revo Styler makes your hair silky smooth, and even puts a little bounce into it. (Gosh...I sound like a commercial, don't I?!) However, just like BR, my "straight" style doesn't stay straight at the beach, no matter how many styling products I use!

Funny you say that, because my hair looks better a lot of times IF I haven't washed it. Because of no oil in my scalp (I guess) it does better the 2nd day (and even the 3rd!!!!!! :rotfl: )

(I am using an Aveda Sap Moss with Saran wrap on my head right this very minute).

Well, my 15 yo son, has me iron his hair on special occasions or for a cello performance. It's pretty cool to see him with thick, straight hair sometimes. And, he's not embarrassed either. His girlfriend and friends all know he has me do it sometimes! (But if it weren't for me, he wouldn't take the time AT ALL!)
