So if someone shot at a foreign dignitary and missed, they would not be tried because it was a near miss?
Ask your atty. This was a shoe.......which everyone seems to think the three years is excessive.

You know, if there was any rational approach to a reply to this post I would pose it. Since there isn't I, and others hopefully, will consider the source and intent and let it go at that. You and Geo are obviously of a different mindset than I am. I, at this point, being vilified, insulted and my service and the service of others denigrated, will let it go at that and consider the sources. I will however, unlike some before me, not acquiesce to those on the board who insult others opinions and quit expressing mine. And despite what Geo says regarding "thank yous" it is the furthest thing from my mind. (If you want to discuss this further, PM me or call me at home and we'll set up a meeting.)i find it amusing gw ducked the shoe thrown at him like the coward that he is. al-malaki just stood there showing his disdain for the thrower. i view gw's decision to invade iraq as a blatant criminal act of revenge. i view your assertion that military service is the precursor to logical discourse to be obsfucation in the extreme. when this war broke out, the true patriots were saying "hold on a minute, what the heck are we doing"? what we in this country have is the freedom to call out criminality posing as patriotism. iraq, to this day, does nothing to protect your freedoms. to the contrary, the entire fiasco has wounded our country for no valid reason. tell me again how wearing that uniform gives you the high road? how many kids laying in those va hospitals are going to turn out to be bitter men when the fog of their youth lifts, and the reality of their misuse settles in?
The commonality is the near miss. Both a shoe and bullet can do harm. Attempt is the culprit. At three years, he got off light.
After reading the title about this kind of assault, I agree, but I couldn't find anything that stated 'if someone hurls a shoe at you' in the code that scooterbug posted. Attempted assault by shoe is the issue here and it could be biased because it was George W. Bush targeted and he isn't very popular.
That being said, the comments are paraphrased right out of the article. However, should a world leader in the US have a shoe hurled at him/her, I believe the punishment should ensue. Additionally, with the Iraq Democracy in its infancy, there is likely a need to be a little more stern right now as certain things aren't tolerated. And, someone pointed out that the term was 5-10 years. Guy got three. Had it been a popular president, the US would be outraged right now.
And, under Iraq's old regime, this guy's punishment would have been much more severe with no trial. Or, again since it was Bush, he would have been a hero and become SoDamn Insane's right hand man. You never can tell sometimes, can you? ;-)

Course Bush is the person who ordered the troops to invade Iraq which led to the outster of Sadam under whom the shoe thrower's punishment would have been more severe. Complex world we live in.![]()

Complex world, indeed. ;-)Course Bush is the person who ordered the troops to invade Iraq which led to the outster of Sadam under whom the shoe thrower's punishment would have been more severe. Complex world we live in.![]()
The Bush hater types would argue that, had we not removed Saddam, the shoe would have never been thrown, therefore, we should not have gone to war. ;-)
"This guy going to jail for the shoe - it's all Bush's fault."
