Blair - to explore the whole idea of socialism, they had the ACTUAL Socialist candidate for President in the Daily Show last night to discuss issues.

Based on his scorn level for the capitalist policies recently implemented, we've got a LONG way to go before we get to REAL socialism.

Yes it's a political forum, not a rumor mill. I have recieved, as many others have, countless e-mails and mailings telling me of the dire consequences of an Obama Presidency. Everything from immigrants taking over, ( that must give Native Americans a chuckle) to being taxed into the poor house and every thing in between. Most of these are either statements taken out of context, partial truth, or outright lies.

There have been 40+ posts on this thread trying to explain these things to you so I want to go back to your title. "Why I can't do it-------Why I can't get past it". Maybe the answer is you don't want to.

Have you been reading these posts with your eyes closed? Do you know what socialism is? Do you know the difference between socialism and communism? Barack Obama is no more of a socialist than John McCain. You are living under one the most socialist administrations in our history. I don't want a total socialist society but many social programs are beneficial to us as a Nation.

If you want to experience true socialism join the military, everything in your world will be owned by the government, you will all be working for one common goal, your rights are traded for the UCMJ, you will be told when and where you will live and work, when your free time starts and ends. All of your needs are taken care of by the Gov. including food, housing, and medical care. You can't quit because you don't like it. If you're enlisted you have to get permission to marry. Try it for a few years I did.

Poppy, you hit the nail on the head. Anyone sitting at a computer who truly doesn't understand what Socialism is can easily google it and learn. The truth is they do not want to because it's a lot easier to call Obama a Socialist and the under-informed won't bother asking. The hope is the catchy little tune will catch on. Not sure why you are giving yourself a headache over it. Go have some Halloween candy.

My suggestion to all, with only 6 days left till election, do something positive for your candidate, like volunteer to drive elderly people to voting. Show people we are all in this together.

No I joined and would do it again. The point I'm making is the military is not representitive of American society as you know it. It is a completely different way to live, much more structured.

The Uniform Code of Military Justice is the law you live under and your freedoms are limited, but it is necessary in order to maintain the discipline needed to conduct it's business.

If I've ever called Obama a true socialist, it was in jest. He is however a social democrat. There's no way you can argue against that. Across our political spectrum, that puts him closer to socialism (with the exception of the true socialists like Bernie Sanders and Maxine Waters) than anyone else. Which is probably why he is attacked as such. I think it's a reasonable attack angle IMHO.

I love that the link lists Bill Clinton and the current and former Prime Ministers of Great Britian as social democrats, but not Obama.

Maybe that is enough to reassure Blair.
