Bruno's Pizza Moves to WaterSound Beach

Bruno’s Pizza has moved from their location in the heart of Seagrove down the road to the Watersound Gatehouse building at the entrance of Watersound Beach, on the south side of Scenic 30A.  Bruno’s now occupies the space that was once Fen’s Deli, with fifty seats inside and thirty seats outside in a beautiful oak-shaded plaza.

Compared to the 22 cramped seats in the old location, the new restaurant occupies 1,500 spacious square feet - twice the area of the old place with ample parking. Customers have full view of the new, totally open kitchen.

Bruno’s delectable, affordable pizzas are created from Bruno’s own sauces and dough made daily by local guys and gals. We locals and legions of visitors have come to love these locally made pizzas. Prices will not change. When our grandkids, who are pizza connoisseurs, come to visit, only Bruno’s will do.

Jeff Goodman, the owner of Bruno’s, and his sidekick of 23 years, Mark Williams, will be there with their cheerful, comedic banter to entertain us. They will continue their debate of who has the best football team, Auburn or Alabama. Jeff is a devoted Alabama fan and Mark hails from Auburn. Photos of “The Bear,” the legendary coach of Alabama who has attained the status of saint among the fans, in his houndstooth hat adorn the walls of the present Bruno’s. They will travel to Watersound and be hung in a place of honor.

Upon seeing the photo of “The Bear” one uninformed customer asked Jeff, “Is that your grandfather?” To which Jeff gently replied, “You are not from Alabama are you?”

Jeff, who has a degree in electronic engineering from the University of Alabama Birmingham, decided to shuck a dull job in Birmingham in 1990 and move to Seagrove where his family had vacationed for years. He worked for in a local pizzeria for a year until the owner sold him the business. When I asked him “Why the name Bruno’s?”  he confessed that it was the name of a grocery chain in his hometown of Birmingham. Bruno’s has been a great success and and now requires more space than available at its present location. Jeff’s lease expires at the end of this year and he said it was time to make the move to the more spacious quarters at Watersound.

Bruno’s policy of “No Shirt No Shoes No Problem” will also travel on down to the new Watersound location.

When Karen and I get a serious yen for pizza we head to Bruno’s for the lunch buffet between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for all the pizza, salad, drink and the delectable cinnamon knots for desert  you can consume for $8.50. If you don’t have our hearty appetites, you can buy pizza by the slice. Pizzas with imaginative toppings just keep popping out of the oven. I like the everything-on-it Supreme or the Veggie, while my Texas-born wife goes for the taco pizza every time.
