The Hibiscus Café in Grayton Beach is Pure Goodness
November 30, 2017 by Manny Chavez
Every morning in Grayton Beach at Hibiscus Café is special but Sundays are off the chart!
The Café opens as usual at 7:30 a.m., but the real fun starts with the Hibiscus Backyard of Love Funday Sunday Brunch charity events from 10 to 1. The regular Café menu is expanded to include wine and a mimosa bar with live music underneath the beautiful oaks.
On the way in you might get a hug from the effervescent Cheri Peebles, who is always willing to open her arms to anyone and everyone! Cheri's cheer radiates throughout the venue which is such a welcome respite from daily concerns. The featured charity organization of the day receives a portion of the bar and café proceeds.
The Hibiscus Café by Grayton Beach Catering is open every morning to the public and Cheri, along with her son Donald “Scooter” Reeder, roll out the red carpet for appreciative breakfast patrons.
Having been associated with Hibiscus for several decades now, Cheri and son have expanded their catering business in several directions including the Café and event catering and planning. The Café serves breakfast from 7:30 a.m. until Noon, Monday-Saturday and 7:30-1 p.m. on Sundays.
During these hours, coffee-lovers enjoy organic, locally-roasted Amavida coffee to go along with hearty breakfast offerings such as their homestyle Quiche of The Day, Italian-style Frittata of The Day, multi-grain Waffle Wonderful (topped with chunky peanut butter, fresh fruit, pecans, coconut and a drizzle of honey), homemade GBC Granola (with fresh fruit and choice of yogurt or milk), the Grit Bowl (creamy stone-ground Gouda grits topped with scrambled eggs and choice of bacon, sausage or grilled veggies), and Old Fashioned Oatmeal (oats cooked with milk or water topped with fresh fruit, pecans and brown sugar served with toast).
Hibiscus Café manager Kevin Posey will make sure your orders are perfectly prepared and he’s quick to do so with a smile. Ask for the special “Locals Card” which will entitle you to a free meal or beverage after each 5th order…don’t forget to get your card punched!
The daily coffee roasts make for delicious Latte’s, Expresso’s or Frappuccino’s. Smoothies featuring all-fruit selections are also on the beverage menu. In line with the Hibiscus Café name, Iced Hibiscus Tea made from hibiscus flowers is a certified organic herbal tea treat.
Younguns love the Kids' Pancake and French Toast with a choice of toppings and special sauces. Bakery items include the Hibiscus Wonder Cookie, Cinnamon Rolls, Bagels, Plain or Chocolate Croissants, and Scones.
For you “On the Go” folks, whole Quiches ($25.00) and Frittatas ($35.00) are available to take home.
With the Hibiscus Café interior being as cozy as the exterior is tranquil, your dining experience can be as moody as you want it to be. Be calm, be happy, be relaxed…kind of like the outside daily chalkboard advises you to be. Also available for purchase inside are local souvenirs (t-shirts, mugs, postcards.).
Aside from their Hibiscus Café responsibilities, Cheri and Scooter’s Grayton Beach Catering business provides for full-service event planning and catering with an emphasis on delicious food. Chef Richard McCord makes everything come together for wedding receptions, family beach boils and bonfires, and private chef services. For event planning or catering information, call 850-231-1090.
During the off season, Cheri is thankful for the locals who are re-discovering the café.
“I’m just glad to be back. We’ve come full circle here at Hibiscus and it’s great to have my family involved. Business is good, and hugging is good—we’re not done huggin’ here!”
