CCA Kid's Fishing Tournament Returns to Grayton Beach Apr 24

April 2, 2016 by SoWal Staff

The 11th Annual CCA Kid’s Fishing Tournament will take place on beautiful Grayton Beach on Sunday, April 24 from noon to 4pm. Make plans for a great day of fishing, fun and learning. The annual fishing tournament hosted by Coastal Conservation Association Florida - South Walton Chapter is a great opportunity for parents and young anglers to enjoy!

Registration will take place Sunday morning on the back deck of The Red Bar in Grayton Beach ($15 registration). The first 150 anglers will receive a rod and reel combo provided by Fish Florida, bait and tackle from our friends at Yellowfin Ocean Sports, beach rod holder donated from Ferguson Water Works and an awesome T-shirt graciously given by Samuel Taylor Homes and Luke & Blues custom homebuilders.

Preble-Rish will be on hand grilling dogs for anyone who is hungry.

The top three anglers from each division will be awarded a medal offered by O’Connell & Associates. First place winners in the boys and girls categories will receive a Gold Pass to Big Kahuna provided by Mainsail Realty.

In addition to the awesome fishing and family fun, look for education stations set up by Florida Fish & Wildlife, Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, Grayton Beach State Park as well as the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA). Bill Horn, a retired FWC marine biologist, will also be on hand to teach the children about local fish species identification.

South Walton CCA chapter president Sister O'Connell said, "This event is one of the highlights of our year. The kids love to fish at Grayton and are so excited to get a new rod and reel- it puts a smile on everyone’s face. We provide an opportunity for local children to spend an afternoon with their parents and friends at the beach engaged in fishing and hands on learning. And, with more education stations we are increasing their awareness of the unique coastal marine resources here in South Walton as well as how to enjoy them responsibly and the need for conservation.”

If you are interested in sponsoring or making a donation for this event, please contact Sister O'Connell at sistaoconnell@yahoo.com. If you would like to register early please visit www.ccaflorida.org (South Walton Chapter).

Please note! All children must be accompanied by an adult for both registration and while fishing on the beach.
