Cottages for Kids is a Fantastic Tradition in Rosemary Beach

November 4, 2013 by SoWal Staff

We love the annual Cottages for Kids event, and the amazing display of creative playhouses in Rosemary Beach throughout the month of November! In its seventh year, Cottages for Kids is an annual "fun-raising" event for Children's Volunteer Health Network (CVHN), and a wonderful South Walton tradition for kids and families. About the only thing better than watching kids play on the beach is watching them crawl over, around, and through the incredible custom playhouses every year!

This year five cottages will transform the East Long Green in Rosemary Beach into a whimsical village of dreamy playhouses that look like they have popped out from the pages of a fairy tale. This one-of-a-kind event kicks off Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m., during the Flutterby Festival hosted by the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County.

“2013 brings some exciting additions to the Cottages for Kids event,” said Shaye Smith, CVHN marketing & events coordinator. “There are Cottages inspired by local communities as well as one Cottage being designed by TLC Designer Vern Yip. Everyone needs to bring their families out this year and experience these unique Cottages.”

The Cottages will be open for play and discovery each weekend through Nov. 30. Other events to check out during Cottages for Kids in Rosemary Beach include Rosemary Beach Unleashed on Nov. 17, the 30A 10K on Nov. 28, and Old Town Holiday on Nov. 29 & 30.

Using a lot of imagination, innovation, hard work and a little elbow grease, area builders, architects and community members come together to design and construct unique and amazing children’s playhouses. The designs are earth-friendly, kid-approved and the materials are safe and healthy for kids and good for the environment.

“We are so grateful for the community support and the people in it that make Cottages for Kids a successful event which allows CVHN to continue fulfilling its mission and serving our local kids,” said Zach Billingsley, CVHN executive director. “Through events such as this one, CVHN has been able to help more than 5,900 local children in the past 8 years and facilitate over 37,500 procedures for these children.”

These carefully crafted mini houses may be purchased by the public and this year, CVHN will offer two ways to win a Cottage. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event and also online. The second way to win one of the creative Cottages will be to bid during the online auction. "Buy It Now" prices will also be available onsite and online.

Cottages for Kids is a family-friendly event that is sure to please children of all ages. The gates are open during the times listed below for visitors to tour and enjoy the cottages. Although there is no entrance fee to the event, donations for CVHN are accepted. Come on out for a fun day at the Cottages, purchase raffle tickets, and make an online bid on your favorites!

Proceeds from the Cottages for Kids raffle and online auction support CVHN’s ongoing efforts to make sure every child in the community has access to the health and dental care they need and deserve.
