Discover Roads Less Traveled in South Walton This Spring

April 7, 2014 by Teresa Lischka

The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA), in partnership with Visit South Walton and Northwest Florida State College, presents a unique series of eco-adventures in South Walton County. Discover Roads Less Traveled offers varied opportunities to explore and discover the natural resources that make SoWal unique. We encourage you to get outside and enjoy!

The Florida Pandhandle is one of the five richest biodiversity hotspots in North America. Walton County’s extraordinary ecosystems are home to numerous and unusual native plants and animals. Besides its sugar white sand beaches and coastal dune system, our county is home to the Choctawhatchee River (Florida’s fourth largest in volume), Choctawhatchee Bay, many creeks and bayous, and the extremely rare coastal dune lakes. Discover Roads Less Traveled will introduce you to some of these very special places.

The current schedule of eco-tours provides outdoor adventure in South Walton through the Spring season. Listings include kayak and stand-up-paddle tours, various hiking excursions, surf-fishing lessons, coastal dune lakes tours, and a variety of adventures. Eco-tours are led by local experts to help you gain a better understanding of our local environment.

“A lot of our visitors are families of active, outdoor types," says Jim Bagby, Director of the Walton County Tourist Development Council. "These are folks going on vacations based on what outdoor activities they can experience.”

Discover Roads Less Traveled expands opportunities for fun outdoor activities from the beach to the woods and waterways. SoWal eco-adventures await your discovery.
