Fundraising Dinner to Benefit Building Homes for Heroes and Master Sergeant Joseph Deslauriers
October 25, 2013 by SoWal Staff
On Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Randy Wise Homes, Inc. will hold a fundraiser to benefit Building Homes for Heroes. This benefit will help to provide local wounded veteran, Air Force Master Sergeant Joseph Deslauriers and his family with a new home. Attendees will enjoy dinner, a silent auction and a presentation by Building Homes for Heroes at the grand ballroom at The Emerald Grande in Destin, FL.
Deslauriers is a triple amputee, so his home will be designed especially for his needs. The house will be equipped with a wheelchair ramp, and it will feature 5-foot diameter turnaround spaces so he can maneuver his wheelchair. His home will also have a pool and gym so Deslauriers can keep fit.
Randy Wise Homes, Inc. of Niceville, Florida has been selected by Building Homes for Heroes to build the family’s new home. “We are working closely with them to ensure that we meet all of their needs. This is an American Hero that has made an incredible sacrifice by defending our country. We want to let the world know that we are taking care of our soldiers,” said Randy Wise.
Building Homes for Heroes is planning a November 18th Groundbreaking Ceremony at Emerald Bay in Destin, FL for Master Sergeant Joseph Deslauriers and his family. For more information call (850) 678-9473 or email info@randywisehomes.com. Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased online at www.BuildingHomesForHeroes.org.
Building Homes for Heroes is a national non-profit, organization founded in 2006 that builds homes from the ground up or modifies existing homes to meet the needs of wounded soldiers who have returned home from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with severe wounds and disabilities. These mortgage free homes not only help to remove the family’s financial burden, but they also help to restore the individual’s freedom, and enable the veteran to lead a more independent and productive civilian life. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Joseph Deslauriers was injured in September 2011 when on a combat operation in Afghanistan. Deslauriers was mounted in a mine resistance vehicle conducting a post blast assessment of an IED explosion. In an effort to get a closer look at the damage done by the IED blast, Tech. Sgt. Deslauriers dismounted and stepped on a secondary mine. The explosion that ensued resulted in Deslauriers losing both legs above the knee, and his left arm at the elbow. Deslauriers carried out two tours of duty in Afghanistan and served in Iraq, Kuwait and Kosovo.
