Happenings at The Bay - Our Favorite Casual Waterfront Restaurant & Beach Bar

March 3, 2020 by Abby Eller

Voted ‘Best Place for Live Music’ in the 2020 Perfect in South Walton Awards, The Bay, Chef Jim Shirley’s waterfront hot spot, features an excellent happy hour, Sunday Funday with brunch and Sunday Pickin’, and as the award suggests, an incredible setting for live music!

Each season brings celebration and special events to the bayside restaurant, located at the foot of the 331 bridge in SoWal, and March is shaping up to be one busy month your famiy and friends won’t want to miss.

The Bay hosts a fun mid-week tradition that locals have come to love. On Wednesday nights we gather for live music by a roaring beach bonfire. Starting at 6pm and rockin' til 9pm, enjoy dinner, cold drinks and live music on the shores of the Choctawhatchee (chock-tuh-hatch-ee) Bay. The March artist lineup is as good as it get!

Sunday Pickin' featuring Mike Whitty & The Sand Ole Opry from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. showcases local and visiting musicians belting out originals and covers from some of the best in the biz.  It's a jam session outdoors overlooking the bay. Come out to the Sand Ole Opry by car, bike, board, boat or plane!

Whether you're 100% Irish or just Irish at heart, St. Patricks Day is a big celebration at the beach. Plan to attend The Bay’s upcoming annual St. Paddy's Day party on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 in honor of the most recognized Patron Saint of Ireland. Come dressed in Irish garb and don't hold back your creativity! This year, The Bay welcomes Sugarcane Jane from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. and Will Thompson Band from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. There will be live music, food and drink specials all day at The Bay as well as across the road at sister restaurant North Beach Tortilla Co.

Speaking of specials, The Bay runs a happy hour seven days a week from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.. Purchase wine and cocktails for half off. Draft, can and bottle beers are $1 off. Grab a beverage, satisfy your cravings, and play some cornhole as your sit on the dock of The Bay and waste some time.

The Bay is an award-winning, yet casual waterfront restaurant and bar created by Chef Jim Shirley with a reputation for serving some of the best grub in South Walton. But the hot spot’s namesake is what brought us there in the first place - the majestic Choctawhatchee Bay of South Walton. Open daily for lunch and dinner featuring mouth-watering Southern gulf coast cuisine, sushi, a 12-draft beer system, excellent wine selections, and inventive bar-crafted cocktails. Follow The Bay on Facebook and Instagram for updates on specials and events. See the food + drink menus at baysouthwalton.com.
