Packin' Up - Headin' East For A Bit

July 9, 2010 by Larry Pentel

I wish I had lots of great fish stories to tell but the Surf just finally went down last night from the 2 back to back low pressure systems we had in the Gulf. The first, Hurricane Alex got some media attention, the second got ignored by the press but kicked up bigger surf than Alex.

Most of the Grayton boats got to fish last Monday AM during a small window of calm seas. My folks and I went out and had a limit of good Snappers and a Gag grouper on a half day and had lots more good grouper bites but the fish were not red hot.

Lots of folks out today and I got to run 2 trips . My morning trip we had a limit of nice Snappers and a Gag Grouper with quite a few big Grouper bites. This afternoons short trip was great- I had 4 gals who wanted to go try bottom fishing. I spent the first 2 hours giving 'em then crash course and they caught a limit of snapper, nothing big but good fish. We spent the last hour chasing groupers- they landed a bunch of shorts, lost some big 'uns and landed 3 we got to keep including 1 at 20#. They decided this was pretty cool--

gals always catch fish

I'l off at daylight to go to Indian pass for 10 days. My next report will hopefully have lots of tales of giant silver fish jumping for the sky. I am open this Monday if anyboday has an itch to catch something bigger than they are-

This is what they look like !
