Sandestin Gumbo Festival Stirs It Up Feb 14 - 15

If there is one food that sums up Gulf Coast goodness it just may be a good pot of gumbo. One thing we know for sure is that we love a good bowl, and you can get yourself one of the best in the world right here in SoWal at the Sandestin Gumbo Festival. 

Every February, Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort pairs first-rate gumbo and family fun at  the Sandestin Gumbo Festival, sponsored by SoWal.com and held this year on Feb. 14-15, 2014 at the Village of Baytowne Wharf. People from all over the southeast will join in the 25th annual festivities during Presidents' Day weekend.

Friday Feb. 14 starting at 2 p.m. - kickoff Gumbo Festival weekend with a Seafood Boil on the bay at the Baytowne Marina Bar & Grill. Starts at 2 p.m. until they run out! Cost is $15. Call  850.267.7778 for more information.

THE MAIN EVENT - Saturday, Feb. 15 from 12-4 p.m. - sample a variety of gumbo and vote your favorite as the “People’s Choice” winner! Dark or light roux? Chicken, sausage or seafood? Celebrity judges will name the “Area’s Best,” and award the most creative set-up as “Best Display.” Gulf Coasts restaurants will be featured along with live music and children’s activities. Tickets to Saturday’s main event are available now online for $20 - $25 the day of the event. 

Live music by Dikki Du and the Zydeco Krewe is worth the price of admission alone.

All participating restaurants will showcase their best gumbo recipe, most filled with chicken, sausage or seafood, while celebrity judges choose their favorites through a blind voting process.

“The Gumbo Festival is one of our longest running and most enjoyable food events,” says Lanier Motes, Special Event Manager for the Village of Baytowne Wharf. “Restaurants from the Emerald Coast serve up their best gumbo, hoping to take home the ‘Area’s Best’ and ‘People’s Choice’ awards.”

By voting, festival guests become eligible for raffle items from the participating restaurants. After “The People’s Choice” honors are given, judges will award the “Best Display” with one winner. The awards ceremony will begin at approximately at 4 p.m.

The Sandestin Gumbo Festival is proud to partner with the Sandestin Foundation for Kids, where a portion of the net event proceeds benefit Sandestin Foundation for Kids’ causes and organizations that have the most impact and make a meaningful and positive difference in the lives of children.

The Village of Baytowne Wharf invites local businesses and restaurants to join in the fun by becoming a gumbo participant. Participants of the Sandestin Gumbo Festival will be included in the event’s marketing package, in an opportunity to win radio and print advertising through our sponsors and award winners will receive prize money.
