mittens, thank you for the informed and rational argument. Can you answer me why Embarq sends out the large and small phone books? I only need one.

SRB has dumpsters for recycling about 1/2 block South of 98 on 393.
I got another at home and apparently someone feels I must need two at the showroom. So frustrating! :bang::bang:
Where is Aleonard? Did she have any luck with her article on what a waste all these books are in a time when the world is trying to be a little greener?

You must have more than one line of service. Usually you get one per line.

Hi Ash. I ran into a brick wall trying to get the cost of printing from many of the phone book companies we receive these from and about that time they seemed to stop, so, I let the story drop, because I didn't think it was timely anymore. Then last week, I found one in my mail box:angry: If they are still be deposited into yards and mailboxes after the primary, I will try to pick it up again.

Only one line SWGB unless they are counting the fax line.

Thanks Aleonard. I will be checking the recycle dumpster for the pile that is likely to happen shortly with this new book to get one more photo for your article.

This is what makes me the maddest and I can't believe the phone book publishers can't know about it. Literally hundreds of brand new, never used, still in the plastic bag phone books all in recycle dumpsters at the same time. Never mind about storing them somewhere, I believe people are getting paid to pick up books they are supposed to deliver and they deposit the whole load under cover of night into a recycle bin and WALA, they get paid!

And in the mean time, another thousand trees get cut down somewhere. :bang:

Hi Ash!
Sorry it has taken so long to answer you!
As to the small and large book distributed by Embarq:
-Customers nationwide were polled on if they would like to see this product and they said yes! Many people use the small books in the car or in a second office etc. I can personally speak to the many people I have spoken with at functions that love the small book. We pass these out at community functions and it actually surprised me how many people were excited to get one and told me they love it.

On the note of the piles of bagged books in dumpsters or recycle bins:
-I would ask that if anyone has seen piles of Embarq Yellow Pages in these locations, please contact me immediately. As I said in my previous post we audit our distribution team throughout the distribution process to prevent these types of scenarios but if this has happened without our knowledge we need to know.

Please keep in mind that the Embarq Yellow Pages uses recycled paper in the printing of all of our directories nationwide!

Thanks and have a great day!!!

I wondered the same with all the excess phone books. The Talking Phone Book just made their mass deposit and left two phone books per unit at the complex we are in. Oddly enough the two end units are unfinished/empty with large for lease signs in them but they still have phone books sitting in front of the doors. That amazes me. I think the people that are paid to put them out get paid by the address and number of books they leave, whether somebody is there or not to accept the books. They tried to leave us several but we politely told them we only needed one and that the empty units needed none but they left them anyway!

The piles of Embarq, or any phone book in the recycle bin is probably a result of not being needed and discarded, which, IMNO is a terrible waste. It's obvious from this thread, that there is mounting outrage at the blatant misuse at advertising, therefore a zillion books per household.

By the way...if the lights are out I will call 411.....if the phone lines are out as well, a phone book wouldn't be needed.

Kurt, can we do a poll to see what phone books are used? How many are needed per house hold, if any?
