Johnrudy - I thought, but now I know, that you are genuinly a very nice person. I have property right on 30A (north side, but right on it) and another right behind that (fairly new - 3 yrs old) and I have a place about 2 yrs old on the beach in PCB (that is pretty incredible), and I never mention it much because I know it is going to get everybody started. That is why others think the people on this board are snooty. Not me, I don't care, I stopped letting things like that bother me long ago. I actually love everybody on here and get a lot of humor from it, but some people get their feelings hurt. You said a nice thing. Thank you. :D
Well, you're a bigger person than me. If only I could let things stop bothering me and try to see the humor, which is usually 99% of the time on this board. I just have a bleeding heart for those that are less fortunate. We learn from each other & we all have a lot to offer in some way, even with our differences.

Anyone who visits the beaches is fortunate!!!

I guess the world is the same no matter where you go. Here in Dallas, you can live in a neighborhood where your kids attend the same excellent schools and you share the same zip code, but if you happen to live EAST of a certain street, there is a snob factor directed towards you. Silly to me, but that's how it goes. I am sure it is the same where you live.

Personally, I give no thought to where anyone owns, rents, eats, plays when in the Panhandle of Florida. There is something for everyone...Thank goodness! When we started vacationing down there in 1986, we started out in Sandestin and when it became too crowded for us, we moved to the 30-A area. We continued to drive into Destin a few times for entertainment when the kids were younger. Now, we find that we do not drive into Destin for much other than a pickup at the airport. It's NOT a snob factor, it's just what we do. I hardly think keeping this board geared towards what's going on in SoWal to be snooty. I have vistited the PCB board and it is geared for that part of the Panhandle. It is also the place I would go if I were looking for info on PCB...they are helpful to one another, just like we are here.

Well said.
But it's some other apalling remarks that people (adults, mind you!) have made regarding PCB. And I guess I'm the guilty one who tagged Sowal more upscale (I'll own that remark) compared to other locations. It is what it is and there is nothing wrong with that.

A perfect example in my home this weekend: My son was invited to go to the "beach." He didn't want to go, kept saying "Lake Michigan is NOT a beach; these people don't know what a good beach is, etc." All of a sudden he copped a superior position. I had to sit him down and explain to him what he was doing. He agreed, went, and had a great time, even tho it wasn't the panhandle. But he needed to be enlightened that, yes it IS different on the "other side of the tracks." It was an opportunity he would otherwise have never taken.

like my 'any and all construction viewable from the beach should be razed and re-duned'?

sasra is the moab (i still call st andrews state park 'sasra' because i remember when it was a state 'recreation area' pre jeb and had employees not just volunteers)

pcb is just something you go through to get to sasra

half hitch and west marine are the only good stores

everything else is just loud, garish rip-offs that reek of teen spirit and the entire area along the beach beyond the state park is nothing but hell

just my own humble opinion

there is a place that i go all the time in walton county that i will never tell where it is cause i don't want it ruined

Hey! I'm here. Don't worry. I don't get why everyone is so bent out of shape. I don't care where you go to the beach as long as there are hot girlz. How old are you Sueshore? Haha.

Seriously though. I'm a little country- redneck if you will- and that's what pcb is all about. I go to Sowal to find rich girlz. Just kiddin'

Thank you Miss Kitty. Eloquent and elegant, as always.

Maybe I do have a snob factor regarding PCB, and in some cases, Destin. But it is funny that the fact that I dislike high rise buildings, all-you-can-eat buffets, loud and obnoxious watercraft like waverunners and those giant speedboats, waterparks, arcades, tattoo parlors, wet t-shirt contests, and everything else that draws the current MTV generation like flies to doo doo makes me snooty. That is why I want to read and partake in discussion about SoWal- not only the vacation aspects of it, but the real estate, business, political, and cultural parts. I also like to read about interesting places that SoWallers have traveled to and interesting books that people are reading- since one special place brought us together, I am probably going to like the majority of their posts. I want to learn about the area because I am interested. I gravitate toward people that have the same interests as I do- and I have found that community on the SoWal board.

I just need to get better at skipping the subjects that do not interest me instead of wondering why they are there. :dunno: A good example is posting on this thread, which is a train wreck. Should have left it in the can, but there ya go.
