I gave up reading after about 2 1/2 pages--do none of you work during the day anymore? :D

I never heard of her until today, and I think it's wonderful that she has the well-rounded background that CampCreek Kid described. That sort of multi-faceted background speaks to a lot of qualifications: the ability to sympathize with several points of view, flexibility, the capacity to learn new things quickly and well, and a wide range of multiple intelligences, just to name a few. For instance, I look at her participation in the Miss Alaska pageant much the same way I look at President Reagan's acting career--experience in performance is a valuable tool if you are going to be in the public eye and under intense public scrutiny.

How brilliant of a move is having your fifth child at 44 years? The risk of birth defects is greatly elevated. Given McCain's advanced age, was this the best, most experienced candidate available, or a pandering, gamble move?

Boo, hiss for you, Bob. You know I love ya, but that was tacky. If I had the opportunity to have a child right now, I would go right after it despite my "advanced age" and I defy anyone who would dare get in my face about it on a professional level. Get thee back to the stone ages.

Thinking back over my voting lifetime, I can't recall an election since I cast my first ballot with no Southerner anywhere on either ticket.

In fact, I can't identify a winning ticket that did not contain a Southerner.

76 - Carter from Ga
80 - Carter & Bush Sr(VP) from Tx
84 - Bush Sr (again)
88 - Bush Sr (again)
92 - Clinton from Ark. & Gore from Tenn & Bush Sr
96 - Clinton & Gore
00 - Bush W from Tx & Gore
04 - Bush & Edwards from NC
08 - nobody....

This will be interesting....

Why didn't they just let us secede from the Union? This is crazy.

I find Chris Matthews particularly annoying. Keith Oberman and Rachel Maddow give me a case of hives when I hear them speak. I like Brokaw when he is on and Todd Whateverhisnameis. I like some of the panelists particularly Eugene Robinson. But mostly I avoid MSNBC.

Chuck Todd -- he IS fantastic. Just the facts...with numbers to boot! A true, old school journalist.

In the era of punditry, he is pretty darn refreshing. I am so over pundits and their opinions. Give me news, not talking points. I'm perfectly capable of interpreting the news and forming my own opinion, thank you very much.

I just read she a strong force in the adoption creationism into the texts of the Alaskan public school system...ho boy...here we go again, science is going to be the bad guy culprit again....why don't we also give the kids abacusses, and let them know that there is also still a distinct possiblity the world is flat as well.

No, we don't need to hear anymore about Ms. Palin, thanks to the media and google we now know volumns (note: Sowal was a third runner up in information gathering). After 12 hrs. from the announcement we now know eveything we need to know.

Let's get back to just McCain VS Obama.

The Sarah Palin Story is over, and Tina Fey and Pricilla Presley are now vying to play her part in the made for TV movie.

Thanks Josh. I agree that it was a worthwhile read. As it was written by a CNN contributor who is a Republican strategist I thought I would also share another viewpoint from CNN written by a democratic strategist...

P.S. I neither agree nor disagree entirely with either of these. I want to learn more about Palin before formulating my own opinion...

The article I read a while back was on her rise to Gov. and I thought she sounded refreshing, tough and took on the corrupt people in her party and came out on top. Nothing about the anti-choice-gay opinions I'm seeing now. As for the state trooper/ brother-in-law deal, don't tell me there was 20 something emails from her staff to get him fired and she knew nothing about them. Can you imagine if one of our local candidate's said that? They'd be taken to task.

I'm disappointed.:sosad:

McCain was either tied or a little ahead or behind depending on what poll you were looking at. That was as good as a solid lead at this point in time. Obama got no bump from the Biden pick. McCain's judgement must really be questioned after this outrageous choice.

I've been predicting / promoting Palin for 4 months now. Hail mary pass or stroke of genius? We'll find out in November.

No, but if you really feel being a former Miss Alaska, being able to snowmobile, having 5 children, etc., etc. as you pointed out, qualifies her to be one heart beat away from a very uninspired, old man, then that is a real cause for concern, wouldn't you say?.

please add the details, like, you know, governor of a state and all that before you chime in hnooe2000 - let's be fair shall we? If she doesn't qualify as V.P., does a young associate attorney with little experience in Washington qualify as President somehow? hmmm...

. Everyone is free to to do what makes them feel "good", but having a 5th child at 44 when you are the governor of a state, and already have 4 offspring seems rather dubious.

God you are a horrible human being. Ok, that's it, I'm going to do it - I'm going to play the sexism card. Bob, you won't vote for Palin because you are sexist. Plain and simple, Admit it.
