I agree Cheering...

I hope she is the Maverick that some claim she is; if so, then perhaps she will stand up to the operatives who pulled McCain from his Maverick ways..

If he would get back to that strategy, then I think we could have a real shot at an election about the issues and the best thing for the country.

the people would then decide who they want to lead us for the next four years based on real issues and leadership, not misrepresenatations and fear.

She can snowmobile, hunt moose, play basketball, and change diapers.
Can she change the world?

How brilliant of a move is having your fifth child at 44 years? The risk of birth defects is greatly elevated. Given McCain's advanced age, was this the best, most experienced candidate available, or a pandering, gamble move?

Oh come on! Find some legitimate criticism instead of insulting her CHOICE to give birth to a child with Down's Syndrome. Did you watch her speech? She has more executive experience than any of the other candidates on either ticket. Your insinuation that she was selected only because she is a woman is insulting.

Alaska has a lot of strong women leaders. Lyda Green is current Senate President. Palin will bring in the conservative and women's vote, plus many more. It is a tough political state. I should add, Lisa Murkowski is Alaska's United States Senator. I went to her wedding.

Hmmm...No Southerners on either ticket...

Thinking back over my voting lifetime, I can't recall an election since I cast my first ballot with no Southerner anywhere on either ticket.

In fact, I can't identify a winning ticket that did not contain a Southerner.

76 - Carter from Ga
80 - Carter & Bush Sr(VP) from Tx
84 - Bush Sr (again)
88 - Bush Sr (again)
92 - Clinton from Ark. & Gore from Tenn & Bush Sr
96 - Clinton & Gore
00 - Bush W from Tx & Gore
04 - Bush & Edwards from NC
08 - nobody....

This will be interesting....

I'm amazed at all the Obama supporters responses here. She's only the second woman to ever run for the White House, and the first didn't make it. Doesn't McCain's choice of her and giving her the chance to make history worth a little praise? Or do we only give praise for historic figures that have a 'D' on the end of their name? We're potentially talking about the first woman V.P., I think that's amazing regardless of the poltics.

I take my hat off to McCain for making what seems to be a very good choice for VP. I say this coming from two perspectives-

1) She seems solid and would likely do a decent job in that role.
2) He chose the person whom I believe provides him with the best chance to win

All that said, I admit that I cannot help but have *some" sour grapes. I believe firmly that he only chose a woman to exploit Obama for not choosing Hillary as his veep...

Smart? ABSOLUTELY.

He didn't choose her despite her gender (which I believe is more admirable). He chose her BECAUSE of her gender...

McCain chose the VP he did to help him get into office.
For the record, I do not blame him...

If Obama used the same approach and chose the VP who would best help him to win he would hands down have chosen Hillary. He didn't choose her because he feels he can win without her. I believe he is thinking ahead to life in office and believes the Clintons would be difficult to deal with in the White House.
For the record, I do not blame him...

Maybe. She will certainly help with the conservative vote. But alot of women that supported Hillary are pro choice. Palin is pro life and that's a deal breaker for many women. I'd love to sit down and talk to her. She seems interesting.

Can someone explain to me why CNN currently has two commentators and an Obama supporter live, commenting on Palin without a McCain representative there to balance things?

I know you see this as biased but I see it simply as-

It is a Republican event and they want a Dem to present their view.
CNN did this many times when it was a Dem event and they had a Rep weigh in (by themselves)...

Larry King did this every night this week of the DNC...
