I don't for a minute believe that picking Palin means McCain is progressive. He will still be anti-choice; still want to drill even when he knows it won't work; still continue to solve every foreign policy question with a war; and still not know anything about the economy.

She may help him get back to his Maverick approach and that will be good.

I will be surprised if many women who supported Hillary Clinton will vote for McCain just because he chose another woman. In fact, I think there is a chance that just the opposite will be true: if they can not have Hillary, they certainly don't want some other woman to be first.

It does makes for an interesting race though.

Please explain why drilling would never work?

I feel really good about this nomination! The more I read and hear the more excited I get.

I just found out Obama is speaking at one of our local high schools tomorrow night. 5 minutes from my house! I would trade places with a few sowal wenches in a minute so they could be here.

Should I go even if I'm not a supporter? Dylan said "we should go and hear what he has to say...it would be kinda neat."

I agree. I think it would be a great experience to hear him speak in person. I made my personal voting choices, not on interviews or dealing with candidates for my job, but hearing them speak at the forums.

read the Pickens Plan...we can not drill our way out of this problem.

It will take at least 10 years to reduce the price at the pump if we started more drilling tomorrow according to the sources I've read, I will post the web address later that I have been using.

McCain knows that drilling off-shore tomorrow would take 10 years to see a small reduction of the cost of gasoline at the pump; however, he also knows it is a good "sound bite" that many people will believe because they want to see some "instant relief"

I can't really agree with that. I love Pickens and I think he has some very innovative ideas that we need to pursue. We need wind, water, oil, solar, etc... I disagree that it would not immediately affect the price of gasoline though. If we started drilling today I think the oil market would reflect it. The market is all about the future, not now. Don't you think we could reap the benefits even if it would be 10 years down the road?

I am truly heartsick about this pick. Senator McCain has just blown the presidency. I live in Sedona and have met McCain. I am a great admirer of him. He has just lost my support and I think eventually millions of people like myself.....social liberals but fiscal and national defense conservatives. I don't know a blessed thing about Gov Palin and that is the point. The main raisonne detre ( fancy word) for picking a VP is if that person can assume the presidency if something terrible happens. We are talking about a 72 yo man who has suffered three melanomas. Gov Palin's resume and experience makes Barack Obama look like he is the second coming of Winston Churchill !!! This was an outrageous boneheaded pick. Pandering to women as if women will be prepared to vote for a pro life, gun bearing, killer of moose !!! :yikes: I will vote for Obama.

Josh, perhaps, but I believe the environmental cost is 'way too high when there are other, less risky ways to get away from oil.

the weaning away from oil is more about political will and leadership than it is about technology.

She's been a governor almost as long as he's been a senator? Winston Churchill :rotfl:
