Spring is really busting out all over up here. The trees are in full bloom and finally thinngs are turning green! :clap:This has motivated me to start walking and riding my bike again. I've also been shopping lately and trying on clothes has also motivated me to start the dreaded diet. Nothing looks good and when I look in the mirror I don't recognize myself. So I walk out with nothing. I refuse to buy any bigger sizes. I realize I'll have lots to wear if I can lose 10-15 lbs but would like to lose 20. Honestly I've never lost that much in my life so I don't know if I have it in me but I'm going to try.

Last night I had a dream I was on Survivor! (a good excuse to get a little fattened up I guess:lol:) Something was bothering me while we were at the best reward challenge ever. I think it was bees. I kept feeling something crawl on my back. I asked one of my tribe mates to see what was wrong. She said no way...your back is too big! I sulked and cried the rest of the day and the producers told me to get over it because I was ruining the show!:rotfl:I think this dream was a result of my bra shopping with Sam on Saturday. I was talking about finding a bra that didn't show back fat!:yikes:

Don't laugh...I'm starting off on the SpecialK diet. www.specialk.com I thnk it's at least a good way to get going and start off on a routine. I am cutting out any and all snacking after dinner. This has probably been my downfall all along...that and skipping meals and then eating whatever b/c I'm starving.

Well, here goes. This is it. This is my public announcement. The real thing. I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna turn this motha out....inside out.

I've gotten out and given walking a try the past two nights, not a fast walk though, plantars fasciitis and all. So far, the feet have felt alright, but I cannot do this every night. This still may end up bothering me on down the road so I have to be careful. I want to be able to walk the beach.

We're just back from a week in SoWal--an extravagantly wonderful week both for the friends we visited with and the celebrations we had--and guess what!! I didn't gain an ounce. Not one stinking ounce.

This, despite being overserved at Bud & Alley's (now I know why the Kitty loves her Planter's Punch ), tippling margaritas and eating yummy Kobe beef burgers at the prom, eating a whole basketful of fried oysters (and not sharing) at Seagrove Market Cafe, liberally sampling the soul food at Big Daddy's Bar-b-que on the way to PCB, dining Cajun at Blue Orleans, and and and...you get the idea: it was a gastronomic feast all week long.

How did I do it? I ate sensibly in between, and never once said to myself "Well, I've already blown the day with that fried chicken so I may as well eat X and X since it doesn't matter..." Case in point: I was roundly laughed at in company I shall not mention ;-) for announcing that we were having yogurt for diinner since we'd made piggies of ourselves at lunchtime. But that's exactly what we had. We'd already consumed our allotment of calories for the day, and that was that. And I hardly need mention that it didn't kill Merman to forgo a big meal, though I do thank him for being a good sport about it!

I guess the point is that you can whup it up and eat whatever you please. Only not all the time, and if you're over-indulgent at one meal, you have to trim back at another meal. That's only common sense.

And tons of exercise is a godsend, and fortunately so easy to do in SoWal! The path that runs along 30-A is marvelous for walking and biking and we made good use of it. We also did plenty of nature trail walking, though I'd recommend a good dose of mosquito repellant the next time. Those flying menaces were especially blood-thirsty. And the beach! We literally walked on the shore for hours. My heels are really smooth now with the natural pedicure action of the sand, so that was an added bonus. I think all the fresh air and sunshine made us sleep so much better, too.

We came back from SoWal in better shape than when we arrived.

OL - I hear ya! I need to start the dreaded diet as well. Haven't bought clothes lately for the same reasons as you but I keep telling myself that I am saving money but not making purchases. Good luck to you!

Good for you Mermaid! SoWal is dangerous - I manage to put on 5 pounds every trip. And I exercise there every day. I guess I need to eat yogurt for dinner too!

Wise words from Mermy.

OL, have you considered Weight Watchers? It is great not necessarily for the products or the weekly weigh in, but because it teaches you how to eat. I used the point system and lost 30 pounds last year. I've gained about three back but I really like how I look with those three gone, so I'm going to go back to a modified point system and ramp up the exercise again in hopes of making my jeans a bit looser. :D

The great thing about WW is you really learn moderation (and Mermy illustrates it so well). You learn what foods fill you up, what is healthy, and how to control portions. I used to eat second helpings regularly but now I get full so much faster! If you are careful it is easy to self-moderate. It helps if you are not a gourmet cook addicted to butter. :D Add in sensible amount of exercise and you will feel great. And that is the best part!

TTF, Weight Watchers is exactly what I've been following since the start of the year. It's all about learning how to eat well and live well. Which doesn't mean having to starve yourself with diet foods! I like eating healthier and like even better that somewhere along the way I've lost the desire for junk. Not to say that I don't enjoy my basketful of fried oysters, as you well know :D, but if I don't have another for another year, I'm not going to cry about it. I've learned that it's only food, that it's not a comfort blanket or a reward or a substitute for dealing with issues or anything else...only food. I am eternally grateful for WW for re-educating me about how to eat properly, and how to do it forever, even after I've stopped the formal weight loss program.

:clap:I am with you OL. the back fat has gotta go. when the fat is on the back then you know its time to start doing something about it. back fat be gone!

TFT - I didn't know you lost that much weight! wow! way to go! I know WW is a good way to kind of learn how to eat well. the only problem I have with it - and this was several years ago = they had so many different point systems and diet methods to choose from I thought it had gotten overly complicated. but I didn't do it so I could be completely wrong. I haven't looked at what they offer recently. I need to do this.

OL - if you are good at reading a book and sticking to the menu plan offered, then South Beach is excellent.

I have a great Mayo Clinic book with menu and recipes that I am starting with this week. its all about eating well, healthy portions, etc.

Good Luck OL, SNS and all!
