We're just back from a week in SoWal--an extravagantly wonderful week both for the friends we visited with and the celebrations we had--and guess what!! I didn't gain an ounce. Not one stinking ounce.
This, despite being overserved at Bud & Alley's (now I know why the Kitty loves her Planter's Punch

), tippling margaritas and eating yummy Kobe beef burgers at the prom, eating a whole basketful of fried oysters (and not sharing) at Seagrove Market Cafe, liberally sampling the soul food at Big Daddy's Bar-b-que on the way to PCB, dining Cajun at Blue Orleans, and and and...you get the idea: it was a gastronomic feast all week long.
How did I do it? I ate sensibly in between, and never once said to myself "Well, I've already blown the day with that fried chicken so I may as well eat X and X since it doesn't matter..." Case in point: I was roundly laughed at in company I shall not mention ;-) for announcing that we were having yogurt for diinner since we'd made piggies of ourselves at lunchtime. But that's exactly what we had. We'd already consumed our allotment of calories for the day, and that was that. And I hardly need mention that it didn't kill Merman to forgo a big meal, though I do thank him for being a good sport about it!
I guess the point is that you can whup it up and eat whatever you please. Only not all the time, and if you're over-indulgent at one meal, you have to trim back at another meal. That's only common sense.
And tons of exercise is a godsend, and fortunately so easy to do in SoWal! The path that runs along 30-A is marvelous for walking and biking and we made good use of it. We also did plenty of nature trail walking, though I'd recommend a good dose of mosquito repellant the next time. Those flying menaces were especially blood-thirsty.

And the beach! We literally walked on the shore for hours. My heels are really smooth now with the natural pedicure action of the sand, so that was an added bonus. I think all the fresh air and sunshine made us sleep so much better, too.
We came back from SoWal in better shape than when we arrived.
