Scenic Highway 30A Designated as National Scenic Byway

March 17, 2021 by Kurt Lischka

Our little road on the SoWal Coast along the world's most beautiful beaches has gained national notoriety as the newest scenic drive in the National Scenic Byways Program.

In the first additions in more than 11 years, Scenic Highway 30A is now among an elite group of scenic routes in America. The Federal Highway Administration has added 34 National Scenic Byways and 15 All-American Roads, the first additions to the program since 2009. The new designees include routes across America from Maine’s Katahdin Woods and Waters Scenic Byway to California’s Historic Route 66 Needles to Barstow Scenic Byway. The new additions traverse 28 states, bringing the total of America’s Scenic Byways to 184 in 48 states.

As reported previously on this site, the effort to add Scenic Highway 30A to the national program involved several local businesses and organizations including Scenic Walton, The Friends of Scenic 30A, Visit Florida and Visit South Walton.
