SoWal Style - Total Peace on the Gulf in Seaside
August 15, 2012 by SoWal Staff
The warm, evening winds of a SoWal summer evening flow across the gulf front porch of this magnificent Seaside home. "Total Peace" rests high on the sand dunes overlooking one of the most peaceful beaches in the world.
Featured in Coastal Living and on the cover of Atlanta magazine, this custom home was built for one thing in mind - the ultimate in comfort and luxury. Cedar shake exterior siding, 10' ceilings on first level, vaulted exposed beams on second level, 1x12 wood planks used for interior walls, antique heart pine floors, stainless steel appliances, Waterworks fixtures, and a coquina tabby shell fireplace are just a few of the design details.
Atlanta-based interior designer Toby West created a warm ambiance using European linen fabrics and hand stitched window treatments, bed hangings and upholstery. He has combined many facets of the nautical world by using antique ship's wheels, English pond yachts, ship construction prints and a wonderful collection of seashells.
West also chose 18th and 19th century Scandinavian furniture, such as a buffet base and a grandfather clock. These pieces continue West's nautical theme. The antique iron ship's lanterns and custom hand wrought-iron chandelier were hung as light fixtures to preserve the ship-like atmosphere.
