Cottages for Kids at Grand Boulevard Through Nov 9

November 1, 2014 by SoWal Staff

We love the annual Cottages for Kids event, and the amazing display of creative playhouses built by local builders each fall! Cottages for Kids is an annual "fun-raising" event for Children's Volunteer Health Network (CVHN), and a favorite South Walton tradition for kids and families. About the only thing better than watching kids play on the beach is watching them crawl over, around, and through the incredible custom playhouses every year!

The eighth annual Cottages for Kids will take place in Grand Boulevard at Sandestin from October 31 through November 9 and will showcase designer cottages for all to see. Grand Boulevard’s Grand Park will be transformed into a small village with cottages that look like they have popped out from the pages of a fairytale to modern creations brimming with creativity. Using a lot of imagination, hard work and a little elbow grease, area builders are hard at work finalizing their creations for this year’s event.

This year’s builders include Corestruction, Dancor Construction, Davis Dunn Construction with Studio A Architecture, and O.B. Laurent Construction.

“These builders are amazingly generous people”, said CVHN Executive Director, Zach Billingsley. “They are stepping away from their own businesses to donate time, materials and labor all to help raise funding for our local kids who are in dire need of medical and dental care. These builders are going change lives right here in our community.”

The cottages make ideal Christmas presents for children who love to play outside. Three of the cottages will be up for bid this year and one will be raffled. Raffle tickets are only $5 dollars, so a lucky winner can own one of these creations for only $5 dollars. Anyone can bid or purchase raffle tickets at the event site or online at cottagesforkids.org.

Come out to Grand Park on opening day from 12:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. to tour the new cottages (Friday, Oct. 31). Children are invited to trick-or-treat in the Town Center at the BOOlevard of Fun and visit merchants as they provide Halloween treats from 4-7 p.m. Then, guests are invited to enjoy a spooky, live storytelling performance by characters from the Emerald Coast Theatre Company at 5:30 p.m. in Grand Park. Volunteers at the whimsical Cottages for Kids display in Grand Park will be handing out special, ghostly gifts. This family friendly event is free and open to the public.

“2014 will bring some innovative additions to the Cottages for Kids event,” said Kim Kelley, CVHN Marketing & Events Coordinator. “Also, we are very excited about the new partnership with Grand Boulevard. Everyone needs to bring their families out and enjoy this kid friendly event.”

Cottages for Kids will be open for play and discovery each day from Oct. 31 through Nov. 9. See times below and come out for a great time in in the park at Grand Boulevard!

Proceeds from the Cottages for Kids event support CVHN’s ongoing efforts to make sure every child in the community has access to the health and dental care they need and deserve. Children's Volunteer Health Network (CVHN) was established in 2005 in response to Walton and Okaloosa County's large population of low income families who are unable to access high quality health services due to the unavailability (or inadequacy) of insurance.
