Eat, Drink and Chill at Steamboat Grill

July 8, 2016 by Audrey Johnson

When the SoWal staff does lunch at Steamboat Grill, we hardly need a menu and often go straight for the crave-worthy Buffalo Shrimp Salad. The always excellent burger and fries is another sure thing. But the other day when we visited the Seagrove Beach location, we decided to switch things up a bit.

While Steamboat Grill is well known for having delicious fish and chips and satisfying burgers, they have so much more to offer, like a suprising Korean barbecue. Owner Catherine Paulk makes it with flavorful cuts of ribeye, bringing the taste of her homeland into Steamboat’s specialty Korean dishes.

The Asian inspiration continues with savory pot stickers that come boiled or fried. The tender homemade beef dumplings are best when dipped in Shoyu soy sauce, and the boiled ones melt in your mouth. They’re so good no one will care if you double dip.

If Louisiana barbecue is more your speed, check out the Shrimp En Brochettes. Jumbo shrimp are stuffed with Monterey jack and jalapeños, then wrapped in bacon and served with rice pilaf, sautéed vegetables and lemon butter dipping sauce.

For a hearty meal in itself, the Bloody Mary is served in a mason jar with a skewered chicken wing hovering above the celery and pickled veggies. You can get one for happy hour any day of the week from 3-6 pm for $1 off, along with all the other adult beverages. Steamboat has local and regional beers on tap too, like Oyster City brew and Grayton Beer.

Tap into your inner rock star on Karaoke Thursdays from 9 pm til late. If you find yourself doing a rendition of Skynard’s Call Me the Breeze, no worries. Steamboat has the perfect concoction for that. Enter the Watermelon Breeze. Stoli Vodka, watermelon limeade, Sprite, and grenadine with a watermelon stick rim…plus an extra one for stirring. It tastes as fun as it looks.

Look for regular live music this summer, as well as Cornhole tournaments and teams beginning in May. Every Tuesday belly up for all you can eat crab legs from 5-7 pm. Catch your favorite sports team on one of their wide flat screens. And stop by daily for lunch and dinner specials, like the spicy Chipotle Chicken.

We might say we’re going for the salad, but it’s the unexpected flavor, cold drinks and fun staff that make a visit to Steamboat Grill worthwhile. That’s why it’s one of our favorite local spots for food, fun and friends in SoWal.

Steamboat Grill is open daily for lunch, dinner, happy hour and late night. The unpretentious South Walton gem is located next to Bow Wow Meow Pet Co. on Scenic Hwy. 30A. Grab a seat at the wide bar, a table for four inside, or a shady spot on the front porch with your pup. For more info, call (850) 213-3167 or email steamboat30a@gmail.com. To stay up to date on the latest specials and live music, please visit Steamboat Grill on Facebook.
