September 23, 2013 by SoWal Staff
The inaugural Fore Her golf tournament is coming to Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort this Fall to raise funds to help local women battling breast cancer.
The event will take place October 26, 2013 at The Links at Sandestin. Check in begins at 11:00 am with a shotgun tee off at 12:00 pm. The day’s activities will include 18 holes of golf and a silent auction. All tournament participants will also receive a “swag bag” filled with gifts from event sponsors.
“After my mom and my aunt each passed away from breast cancer, my family members in Michigan wanted to do something in memory of them,” shares Amy Walsh, President and Founder of Fore Her, Inc. “Because a lot of my family members enjoy golf, they held their first annual golf outing in 2000, to celebrate the lives of my mom and my aunt. Therefore, I founded Fore Her, Inc. and am striving to continue the tradition of my family within this community by helping those fighting this disease locally.”
Since the concept by Walsh’s family in Michigan, their annual golf tournaments have raised over $85,000 in 13 years. Walsh plans to continue that tradition here on the coast in South Walton, Florida.
Fore Her, Inc was formed by Amy Walsh and is run by a board of volunteers made up of local women and men. The golf tournament will be held annually in October to raise money for local breast cancer patients one golf game at a time. Many women and families will face financial difficulty due to prolonged treatment, medical travel, medical expenses not covered by insurance, reduced salary and other real life experiences.
