Local Builder Consistently Gives Back to the Community

December 5, 2013 by SoWal Staff

This year marks Chuck, LLC’s first time participating in Cottages for Kids, a fundraiser to benefit Children’s Volunteer Health Network. However, Owner Chuck Slaven has personally been involved with numerous charities including Habitat for Humanity, BuildNow (New Orleans), St. Bernard Project (New Orleans), and Food for Thought Outreach

“I feel that giving back is one of the most rewarding acts that we all can do to improve the quality of life for those in need. Cottages for Kids allowed us to do just that. We were able to create a cottage that would raise money for a great local cause, plus give some lucky family a lifetime of fun and enjoyment in their own backyard,” says Chuck.

For his flagship cottage, Chuck decided to recreate a well-known Seaside landmark with a twist. He said, "The idea for this cottage was instant, what kid doesn’t envision the obelisk (Coleman Pavilion) as a playhouse? Seaslide is our homage to a 30A icon and the playful spirit of all who visit."

Chuck gained valuable experience managing projects for large national building firms before establishing Chuck, LLC. Most of the company’s projects have been located in Northeast Florida and, for the past 2.5 years, New Orleans. Chuck, his wife Dana, and their three sons have made South Walton their permanent home while he grows his renovation, remodeling and construction business from his Santa Rosa Beach office.

Chuck’s environmental philosophy is apparent in the custom homes that he delivers. Each home blends with its surroundings as if it has always been there. Second story atriums that look down into lush courtyards, modern kitchens with natural elements that create a hub for the home, and entire walls of windows that bring the outside in encourage homeowners to live in harmony with nature.
