National Marina Day at Bluewater Bay Marina June 13
June 4, 2015 by SoWal Staff
The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA) and Bluewater Bay Marina are hosting the second annual National Marina Day celebration on Saturday, June 13 from noon-4 pm. The event is free and open to the public, with fun activities that highlight our connection to Choctawhatchee Bay. All ages can enjoy fish printing, touch-tanks with local aquatic life, paddle board tours, a volunteer OYSTER reef build, and more!
CBA enjoys a strong partnership with Bluewater Bay Marina, which has earned the Clean Marina designation from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). To become designated as a Clean Marina, facilities voluntarily implement a set of environmental measures designed to protect Florida’s waterways. These measures address critical environmental issues such as sensitive habitat, waste management, stormwater control, spill prevention and emergency preparedness.
National Marina Day’s theme is “Welcome to the Water- Discover Boating” and is the perfect day to honor Clean Marinas such as Bluewater Bay Marina, who share the common mission with CBA in promoting healthy, sustainable waterways. The National Marina Day celebration at Bluewater Bay Marina was designed to showcase the beauty of local waterways through educational activities that encourage boaters to practice water stewardship.
“CBA designs fun, educational events like this so that we can capture hearts and minds and remind people to be good stewards of our waterways,” said Alison McDowell, Director of CBA.
CBA has benefited directly from Bluewater Bay Marina’s commitment to environmental stewardship over the years. The marina complex has donated boat storage and provided bay access to support CBA’s water quality monitoring efforts in Choctawhatchee Bay, in addition to extending CBA’s public outreach. Over the past year, Bluewater Bay Marina has played an active role in CBA’s restoration project at Marina Cove, which will be completed by volunteers on National Marina Day.
