American Bald Eagle Pair Hang Out on Seagrove Beach

We get quite a few snowbirds in South Walton, but a pair of eagles swimming and frolicking on the beach recently take the cake. Actually, these two are likely permanent SoWal residents, probably a mating pair with a nest nearby.

This time of year our local eagles venture out for a good meal and to gather material (seaweed?) to build their nests for chicks coming soon. We've never heard of any on the beach though.

Sally Edwards and her husband Larry from Birmingham got quite the show from their Seagrove condo, and sent us the photos to share.

The Owsley Brothers Turn It Up to Eleven

It’s a Thursday night at the Buddha Lounge in Blue Mountain Beach and the cops just showed up. There’s no brawl to break up, the music is just too darn loud for the neighbors.

The Owsley Brothers had just finished playing a Black Sabbath cover and a lengthy instrumental tune when Walton County's finest arrived. Unfortunately for the band and those who came to see them, there will be no second half of the show. Maybe they could have tried to turn it down a bit, but then it wouldn’t really be an Owsley Brothers show.

McCaskill & Company is a South Walton Gem

As a young boy, Bill Campbell was thrilled to visit his grandmother's house when she would bring out all of the jewels collected from her father’s and his great-grandfather’s travels. When Bill graduated college, he went to work as a manager for his family’s hardware and supply businesses. After twenty years of working with his family, the two businesses were sold and Bill was finally able to follow his dream of owning his own fine jewelry store.

Every Kid Deserves a Christmas Present So Join the South Walton Elf Ride on Dec. 9

Luke Thompson was only 10 when he started the Elf Ride tradition in South Walton. He did it to help local children by raising awareness of the local Angel Tree charity at the South Walton Fire District (SWFD). It was a grand idea, and now five years later Luke is 15 and also known as "The Grand Elf".
