Just curious, has anyone pointed out that Palin has been in an Executive position while Obama has never served at the Executive level. Palin must make decisions in her role, while Obama has been able to skip voting (making decisions) in the Senate, not to mention, half of his time in the Senate, he has been campaigning rather than actually doing the job of a Senator.

this point has been made by the repubiclans quite a bit in the last few days as if someone put out the memo that it had to be repeated by every gop analyst and representative over the air millions of times, over and over.

but it does not matter one bit. we are talking about leadership qualifications. obama has the vote for nomination and has demonstrated his competency to millions, including me, throughout the campaign. palin was an unknown. her 20 month governor experience may be somewhat relevant to the presidency but not really.

Yeah, and the whole time he was supposed to be representing his Illinois constituents and the rest of us as a U.S. Senator.

There are 3 senators campaigning and 1 governor. How well each of them is representing their states could be questioned. How do you propose election campaigning be done? We could likely dig up stuff on all of them that is a shame. For example when McCain was in Sturgis with the Harley bikers saying "Tell them to come back and get to work!" (senators) when he missed a vote for the eighth time in the past year on an important bill that would have extended the investment tax credits for installing solar energy and the production tax credits for building wind turbines and other energy-efficiency systems...

These kind of "conservation things" are issues I care about.

Get your tomatoes ready, but I have to agree with organicmomma about the motherhood thing. Those who think it's great to go back to work 3-5 days after giving birth, have you had children? Babies require round the clock care. They nurse every couple of hours. They NEED THEIR MOTHERS. Who is doing this while mom's at the office? Yeah, I know, not every mom breast feeds, but feeding time is bonding time. I cherish every moment I have with my son - still - and he's nearly 15 years old. There is NO WAY I would abandon him for my ambitions, no matter how lofty the perceived goal.

And SJ I'm sorry, but the world your 13-year-old grandmother lived in bears little resemblance to our present one in many ways. Many people married and raised families in their teens then. Not such a great idea now.

And finally, Palin as his pick does say much about McCain's judgment. And none of it positive.

So Obama has actually been campaigning the entire time he has been a Senator? That's a scary thought.

Was it scary to you when George W. Bush took time as our President to campaign for re-election in 2004?

Wow...watching the NBC Nightly News, and they are, of course, talking about Bristol Palin. Obama's response was way classy... Props to him.

Obama to Media, Politicos on Palin Pregnancy Story: 'Back Off!'

September 01, 2008 2:28 PM
At a brief press availability in Monroe, Mich., ABC News asked Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., if he had any response to Gov. Sarah Palin's statement that her unmarried 17-year-old daughter Bristol is pregnant.

"Let me be a clear as possible: I have said before and I will repeat again, I think people's families are off limits," Obama said, "and people's children are especially off limits.

"This shouldn't be part of our politics," he continued, "It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor, or her potential performance as a vice president.

"And so I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories," he said. "You know my mother had me when she was 18, and how a family deals with issues and, you know, teenage children, that shouldn't be the topic of our politics and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that's off limits."

I don't think anyone will see this as any real news, do ya'll? maybe it will be spun to make it into good news about pro-life and all that jazz. poor girl, she's going to be a pregnant poster child. I feel for her and the media attention.

If this news is spun and politicized like the poor "5th child with DS" as he is called, I will be sick.

Thunderbird.
:rotfl:

I, too, feel sad for the 17-year-old who will now be in the media spotlight.

Is this the kind of example we're now setting for our teenage girls? It's okay to be sexual active, get pregnant, and bring a child into the world when you're barely more than a child yourself? As the Mother and Grandmother of girls -- It was and still is my job to teach them that pregnancy should not be an option at that age for their sake and for the unborn children they might have.

What is Sara Palin's stance on teen pregnancy? Her public statement seemed to say it is okay, although her daughter would certainly not have been able to make any decision other than to have the baby.

"We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents," Sarah and Todd Palin said in the brief statement.

We've been working hard in this country to lower the teen pregnancy rate because it impacts our welfare system, the education system, and the level of skilled workers. Vice President Sara Palin might not be much help in that area.

Yes, since I am sure abstinence only sex ed was her only option, and we all know statistically what a loser that is, so now she has no choice but to be the poster child of the pro life movement. It could not have been scripted better. Now 2 Palin children are part of the campaign.:sosad:
