We got rid of pump attendants at most gas stations because it made fuel more expensive, just like we got rid of American jobs because it made goods & services more expensive.

I think many places would offer "full service" instead of self service if you pony up the $.

I hear ya girls! I HATE to pump gas too. But it's that or I run out on the expressway. Dang we need a man we can trust with our car who wears a star...was that Texaco??

Yes, I remember singing that song when I was a kid.

You could say it will mess up your fingernails. :D It seems like that would be a grayt business idea, an old timey full service gas station. :clap:They could even check the air in your tires. :D Wonder why they ever quit?

There is ONE station in my town, that still pumps gas for LADIES only. I love it, plus the owner is A TRUE SOUTHERN GENTLEMAN.

I have liked to pump gas for a long time. I can remember being about 8 years old, pumping gas for my mom. I'd pump gas for my gal, anytime, as long as I don't have to drive to the gas station to meet her.

I know of a gas station in the Cove, in Panama City, which has full service. The first time I went there, I was riding with my brother. He says, "watch this," and we pull up to the pump. A lady, maybe 70 years old, comes out to the pump, and is pumping gas, and is over at the driver's window, asking if she can check the oil. Let me tell you. I wanted to jump out and pump the gas, but I didn't want to get my butt kicked by a 70 year old gas attendant lady. She truly loves her job, and my guess is that she probably owns the place, and feels the need to offer something that no other gas station in town offers. Did I mention that the gas was actually a couple pennies less per gallon at her station?

I guess the good old days (and southern gentlemen) still do exist in some places. I guess too I will have to move to get my gas pumped. The fingernail thing won't work with mr. dd--I have short nails--and he wouldn't care anyway. :D

I hate it when people want to decorate to "celebrate the season" and cuss, while doing so! Or, when they ask for your help and byatch, that you didn't do something, right! Sorry, Mom.:leaving:
I really try not to shop anywhere if I'm in a hurry. It's much more enjoyable when you aren't rushing. You can really appreciate the season and are more available to practice little random acts of kindness. Nevermind that I still want to :whack:my own mom.:D

My only pet peeve about Christmas is that I feel guilty because I can't get everyone I know something, but I try anyway. Now that I have a little one I just want to enjoy watching her discover all the joys of the holidays and keep myself from turning into a guilt-ridden-psycho-B*%ch over gifts I can't afford.

Does anyone know how to do this?:dunno:

It's hard not to get caught up in the commercialism of it all. I worry....Is this enough? Will they like this? No gift is good enough...Did this cost enough? Will they think this is cheesy? Will they re-gift my gift anyway?

Am I a lunatic or do others go thru this as well ??

My family got so tired of all those gift dilemmas that we now only get gifts for the immediate nuclear family. You really get to enjoy Xmas a lot more when the focus on on enjoying the season instead of shopping. I have a Xmas shopping list of 7 people total, though I will celebrate the season with MANY times that amount with parties, dinners, and handwritten cards.

As far as little ones and the holidays, we found that the enjoyment level was much higher by spreading the holiday out as the single multi-hour barrage of presents is short lived and overwhelming.

Open 1 or 2 presents xmas eve, the stocking/santa presents before a holiday breakfast on xmas day, then alternate opening other gifts so only 1 person is opening at a time and kids get some time to explore/tinker with each gift as it comes along.

Actually, the dog's owner got that as an early X-mas gift! I don't own a dog yet due to schedule and housing constraints.

Thanks for the reminder though, I forgot I have 2 puppies on my gift list. If only we were all so happy w/ simple presents of chew toys and bones. :D

I stand, corrected! You were a great friend to help them, with their missing pet search!:clap:When you get serious about a pet, I really hope that you adopt one! There are sooo many wonderful and unwanted pets, that need love and a chance! My son did from the RUFF SHELTER IN FORT WALTON BEACH and Dobi has been a very luvable member, of our family! If something ever happened to my Yorkie, I will!
