Seaside Academic Village Programs Enrich the SoWal Experience

The Seaside Institute is hosting five arts workshops from Jan. - June in the Seaside Academic Village. Writers, photographers and artists are invited to participate in workshops instructed by masters in their respective fields.
Participants will learn creative writing techniques from author John Dufrense, photography from Seaside's Photographer of Record, Steven Brooke, Plein Air Oil Painting with Kathie Odom, and drawing techniques from Brian Bomeisler.
Todd Zimmerman and Laurie Volk of Zimmerman/Volk Associates are to receive the 2015 Seaside Prize for their contributions to the success of New Urbanism. In the true spirit of The Seaside Institute, Todd and Laurie will lead a housing symposium in conjunction with the celebration.

Creative Writing Workshop with John Dufresne
The short fiction workshop will meet Jan. 29-31 from 9 a.m. - Noon to discuss the stories you’ve written. Dufresne will address concerns about writing and storytelling and lecture on narrative techniques and the fiction writing process. Writing exercises designed to give imaginations opportunities will complement the workshop. Dufresne will also meet individually in conference with each student.
Seaside Prize Housing Symposium, Ceremony and Dinner
Seaside Prize 2015 nominees Todd Zimmerman and Laurie Volk will lead the symposium "Neighborhood Challenges for a Re-Urbanizing Nation prior to the Prize ceremony and dinner, Feb. 20 – 22. The symposium will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and end on Sunday with a tour of Rosemary Beach.
Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain with Brian Bomeisler
Brian Bomeisler's intensive class is designed for individuals with little or no prior drawing training and will be held March 27-31. Bomeisler continues to have tremendous success in teaching people to draw and paint, as well as helping to build their levels of artistic confidence and creativity. By the end of this 5-day workshop students will see a remarkable change in your drawing skills.
Plein Air Oil Painting with Kathie Odom
Kathie Odom will host a four-day Plein Air Oil Painting workshop May 25-29 for intermediate and advanced students. As a master of plein air oil painting, Kathie has won numerous awards for her work and loves sharing what she has learned with others in a collaborative environment.
Architectural Photography Workshop with Steven Brooke
Renowned architectural photographer Steven Brooke returns to instruct his second architectural photography workshop May 30 - June 3. The dynamic 5-day workshop combines the history of architectural depiction and composition with an accessible approach to the technical demands of photographing architecture, landscape, and interiors. The workshop is suitable for students of all ability levels and backgrounds.
Kathie Odom, plein air artist
