New O’Donnell Professional Building Stands Out

October 3, 2016 by Manny Chavez

For those of you who’ve been wondering about the cool new building just completed next to the Donut Hole on Highway 98 - wonder no more - it is the new home of Great Florida Smiles & Orthodontics and the O’Donnell Eye Institute (both formerly located on Mack Bayou).

Dr. Michael O’Donnell (Dr. Mike), who began his dental practice over 12 years ago in DeFuniak Springs and Santa Rosa Beach, has had this particular location (6757 U.S. Hwy. 98 West, just west of The Donut Hole) in mind from the very beginning and has been planning all along to share his dream with our community.

His efforts are now etched in concrete with the wave-like architecture now dubbed The O’Donnell Professional Building, the new home of Great Florida Smiles & Orthodontics, the O’Donnell Eye Institute, and a unique rooftop terrace venue available for event space. The O’Donnell Eye Institute, headed up by Dr. Lan O’Donnell, is currently open for business at the new office location with Great Florida Smiles having just opened their doors on Sept. 22, 2016. Other tenants now leasing space include the Emerald Coast Association of Realtors (this is their new headquarters), attorneys for Pratt Aycock, and Hinckley Functional Medicine.

The 4-story state-of-the-art professional building features a 4-story atrium with a glass elevator offering a spectacular view of a shimmering chandelier that will soon become a conversation piece. The top floor will be the talk of the town as well with the spacious (3,000+ square feet) open-ended terrace overlooking beautiful Topsail State Park. “The terrace is available for all of our tenants,” explains Dr. Mike. “Visitors to our building can visit the terrace during regular office hours and we maintain a calendar for reserved evening events.

The space can be leased for private business functions, wellness seminars, wedding functions, etc.” The open-flow design includes two flat screen televisions, Hi-Fi audio throughout, free Wi-Fi, and, an added bonus, lots of parking! The outdoor terrace is partially covered and set up to be totally re-configurable with furniture placement options left to the imagination of the event planner. The kitchen boasts plenty of counter space for catering prep work, an ice machine, and two beverage refrigerators.

When Dr. Mike and his wife Dr. Lan first started in their fields, they realized that the eye and dental professions were primarily insurance driven. “We have done our best to change that model so that we can offer what is best for the patient, not for the insurance company,” says Dr. Mike. While they accept various patient insurances and will file their claims, they offer alternative payment plans for treatment costs.

Both the dental and optometry practices offer sport unique equipment allowing for the latest in patient care and treatment. Nearly all services and treatments are available in-house with the individual health of each patient being the top priority.

Dr. Mike and Dr. Lan are very excited about their new building and their expanded opportunity to serve the SoWal community. Their vision and bright smiles have paved the way for this remarkable journey.
