Bud & Alley's In Seaside Noted As "Most Legendary" In Florida

June 11, 2024 by SoWal Staff

According to a recent article from Southern Living Magazine, Bud & Alley's Waterfront Restaurant in Seaside is one of 17 of Florida's Most Legendary restaurants. A distinction we applaud and feel like we already knew!

From the article:

Bud & Alley's is an iconic oceanfront eatery along Highway 30A. Founded by a couple of 24-year-old surfing buddies (and named for a cat and dog in a town that only boasted twelve houses at the time), it was the first restaurant and watering hole to open in Seaside. It's still serving up its beloved crab cakes today. Take in the sunset from the rooftop bar with epic views. www.budandalleys.com; 2236 E County Hwy 30A, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459

The article begins:

It's no secret that Florida restaurants are good at keeping their doors open. The Sunshine State has seen countless hurricanes, watched rockets soar into space from its shores, and served coffee through the Cuban missile crisis. Through it all, Florida restaurants continue to survive and thrive, keeping residents and visitors satiated and coming back for more.

These legendary restaurants aren’t passing fads or trendy Instagram eateries, they’re cultural icons, so interwoven in Florida’s history and spirit they’re forever emblazoned into the state’s canon of hospitality. Their counters have heard countless stories, their dining room floors have seen thousands of visitors, and their locations have been carefully selected to tell a story of place. From the Panhandle down to the Keys, Florida is home to many legendary restaurants, more than can be listed here, each with a unique story to tell—just ask the loyal patrons who return again and again.

With a culinary landscape as diverse and vibrant as its population, these 17 iconic eateries serve as living landmarks of culture, history, and cuisine. Dine here for a taste of timeless Florida flavor.

Congrats to owner Dave Rauschkolb and the staff at Bud & Alley's!

SoWal Insider Tip: make sure you catch a sunset on the rooftop bar with a camera and a cocktail. Just leave some crab cakes for us!

From Bud & Alley's Website:

This beloved gathering place with the quirky name was founded serendipitously in 1987 by a couple of young local surfers on their way to catch some waves. Instead, they jumped into the chance to channel their energy and passion into Bud & Alley’s overlooking the Gulf of Mexico in the heart of Seaside on Scenic Highway 30A in Northwest Florida.

The pair named the place after the town founder’s dog and the restaurant owner’s cat, and created a dining tradition where sharing good food with good people and having a good time has become a way of life.

But beyond serving up a fresh take on the Southern coastal classics, Bud & Alley’s has become a trusted tradition for generation after generation for those seeking the unassuming upscale seaside restaurant with a sense of place.

As the sun sets locals and visitors alike gather at dusk on the Rooftop Bar at Bud & Alley’s to celebrate the end of another perfect day in paradise by sounding the vintage bell.

Bud & Alley’s devotion to farm- and sea-to-table dining extends to casual eateries overlooking the Gulf, too. The Pizza Bar‘s authentic stylings of wood-fired artisan pizza pies are direct from the cucina’s of Italy, while the Taco Bar‘s fresh flavors and funky vibe are reminiscent of the authentic taquerias on the Mexican border.

And now Bud & Alley’s Catering catering company allows you to savor the flavors of the dishes you love while celebrating life’s milestones and special moments.
